Floyd is taking a fight against a known commodity that he knows people will watch. Against Ortiz, he was banking on the fact that that is the sort of fight that makes boxing fans. If you show someone that fight, they might be tempted to keep watching the sport. Ortiz looked great, so naturally if you feature him in a 24/7 it'll bring more eyes that way. Cotto is NOT the 154 lb king, he's just the most well known. It's also a fight fans have wanted for a while. So regardless of his actual chances, people will watch. They'll know Cotto from the Pacquiao fight, they'll know him from the Margarito fights, and they'll buy the fight to finally get what they've waited 4-5 years for.
there isn't one because it's a muddled division without top fighters fighting each other. Cotto has fought Foreman for his debut, Mayorga(who loses to every good fighter he's faced), and Margarito who coincidentally couldn't hurt Miguel in the rematch, whether it was from bigger gloves, legit wraps, whatever. Cotto is the most well known, he's the commodity. That's it. He left the WW division and has been matched without much risk. I'm not hating on him at all, I'm just saying that he's not the top 154 lber.
that's the problem with pac and floyd fans they have so much bias and hate towards eachother that they cant come to terms say something that will give props to the other one.. if he agrees that cotto is the best then floyd would be beating the best and he cant come to terms with that... by his reasoning there isnt a top fighter in any division because they havent all fought eachother :hat
Well, like I said. The Jr MWs haven't been fighting each other. So if you took a list of the top 10 and put them all up against Cotto, do you think he would beat all of them? He'd be fighting undersized against pretty much all of them. May-Cotto is essentially 2 WWs fighting above the class.
Would Wladimir beat every top 10 HW? Would Manny beat every top 10 WW? Would Bradley beat every top 10 JWW? That's not a good standard for deciding who the best fighter in a division is. Even if you're more talented than a fighter, if he's got the right style, he can beat you. But again, every division has to have a best fighter. I will ask you again, who is the best fighter at JMW?
It is for defining the king of that division. Just like Mayweather is king of 147. He would beat the Manny that's in the division. He would beat any top 10 ranked guy IMO. the top guy is concievably favored to beat any other top 10 guy and Cotto could not beat every top 10 guy. I think Alvarez stands a pretty good chance of beating Cotto with his size. I think Lara would be an issue for Cotto. There is no defined person. I get why people are sitting Cotto in number 1 because he's at least fought and he's looked good but for his competition? People **** all over Margarito when Pac fought him not only for the 150 catchweight but also because he never beat anyone at 154 of note. So why does Cotto get a pass? because it's a WW rematch that happens at 154?
Forget the King label for second. Who is the best fighter at 154? You have to realize how bad your argument is. Let me give you an example just to show you. Let's say that most people are of the opinion that The Chicago Bulls are the best team in the NBA. Does that mean that they would beat every top 10 NBA team in a 7 game series? Absolutely not. There could be a team that they simply don't match up well with. Just because you are the best, doesn't mean you can beat everyone. Is that what this about, Pacquiao not getting enough credit?
