Think about it man Canelo sold 40 thousand tickets against an un known, Everybody knows who Mayweather is. Now lets rewind back to MayDay 875k PPV sold, thats against an complete and utter bum in Floyds first return since jail. I believe fans knew better than to order that which is why the fight never reached 1 million PPV buys or better, we know who Robert Guerrero is and isnt and he sure isnt worthy of a 60 dollar fee to watch him get whipped by Floyd. However Canelo who just came off of an impressive performance unifying both titles, and who also has a huge following not just in Mexico, but here in the states in the Mexican communities here. This kid is pretty ****ing popular and Floyd tied in a knott with this kid is going to give this fight a huge push. The difference here between this and DLH, is that DLH at that point was a part time fighter and that fight still did very well, allot of people were turned off because they believed DLH Hopkins was fixed. And even after that the Mayweather Delahoya fight sold like hot cakes. Canelo is not a part time fighter, he is only 22 in his prime, if Mayweather can bring 875k PPV buys fighting a guy that had absolutely no chance to win a guy who really did nothing to gain public interest. if Floyd can draw that and not even be involved in the promotional tours etc... This fight is going to for sure out do the DLH fight.... you have every bit of the ingredients there.
Damn, it really does have all the makings to break the PPV record. I'm still pretty much on the fence but if there is a fight out there that can break it, it is this one. If it hits the 2 million mark, I'll be impressed. But I agree, this fight will be massive worldwide and that will create more hype and get the American fans more excited. Let's see how it goes.
I just keep thinking to myself that if Floyd can draw 875k alone fighting a stiff, with out being involved in any of the promotional tours. that sort of speaks for itself dont you think? I mean he drew that doing nothing no effort at all not a very good opponent a guy nobody knew. Now you have to set aside I would say about 400k that would have traditionally bought the PPV had Floyd fought someone that would draw interest this leaves you around the 1.3 Million PPV mark. DLH vs PBF did 2.4 from what we hear... 1.3 should be Floyds norm if he is fighting a guy like Ortiz, or a Mosley. another superstar added to it who has a massive following I think easily Saul will bring in another million PPV buys just the fight alone will do that not one particular fighter but the fight itself what is at stake here this fight will sell like its crack for fight fans casuals and yes even Canelosexuals and *****sexuals. I know most say it wont do that, but I am optimistic here I honestly believe this will be recorded as the largest gate in the history of the sport. Think about that for just one moment the largest gate, Now should Floyd lose lets say the fight is close, but its a hard fight Floyd actually has someone in there who will make him fight, and somehow Floyd gets stopped late..... What do you think the rematch does? this is big ****ing money here if everybody does their part, I know allot of you think this is going to be an easy nights work for Floyd, but many of you who have said that also said Canelo had no chance against Trout. Now I aint saying Trout is Mayweather or visa versa what I am saying is how can you insist so blindly when you know you have a guy in there with Canelo who is 36? A guy who tends to throw one shot at a time in spots?
Wow, this is an exciting fight. I really hope it does break the PPV record, boxing needs this right now. Canelo is a very very live opponent, this isn't an easy fight for Floyd but I still expect him to win on the scorecards. It all depends on Canelo's game plan, I'm not really too sure what he can do, but he has to conserve his energy and make the most of his spurts.
All I can say right now and you have been here long enough to know, Floyd deserves credit, I have no idea why people are talking **** about the catch weight. However at the same time in my giving Floyd credit, there are the usual's who insist this is an easy easy fight for Floyd..... Not true :nono if this were an easy fight for Floyd I wouldnt be giving him an ounce of credit
:good Now can you imagine if its a real class, entertaining fight, real close and then the verdict is a DRAW, then both fighters go into a rematch still undefeated with fans wanting more because the first fight didn't disappoint !
Can't see it. The lead-up is too short (3 months), and Canelo is a great draw in Mexico but I don't think he's the same kind of draw in the USA. Wasn't he on a previous Floyd card to try to help the PPV buyrate and it turned out to be a very good number, but not sky-high? Canelo-Floyd should do significantly better than Floyd-Guerrero, though. Should be a fun fight, but I don't think Canelo has the boxing skills to deal with Floyd. Should be an easy Floyd payday, and Floyd gets his PPV "mojo" back after the Guerrero episode.
the thing about Canelo-Trout is, that although Trout was sort of unknown, there was a good sense of competitiveness about that fight. 2 undefeated champs going at it. i think even the casuals knew what kind of fight it was. i doubt Canelo would've done so well with attendance with a guy like Cintron in front of him. also Trout beating Cotto was his official coming out party. but i get what you're saying. this fight is gonna be huge..
Remember, we are talking about "Money" Mayweather Marketing Promotional GENUIS!!! He'll be at the NBA Finals promoting the fight, He'll be at opening weekend of NFL (Thursday night, Sunday night or the Monday night game) promoting the fight, I am quite sure that GBP will have Canelo on the entire "Latino Television Market" (Republica Deportiva, El Gordo y La Flaca y mas). The fight will be in Movie theaters, the Showtime ALL-Access will be OFF THE HOOK and of course if they put together a legit undercard like Russell Jr. vs Mares - Ortiz vs Guerrero - Santa Cruz vs Terrazas.....2 MILLION BUYS EASY!!!!!
Ok, I wasn't sure about this author from Forbes. Now I know he doesn't know what he's talking about. Same guy wrote this about a month ago: http://www.forbes.com/sites/kurtbad...achine-will-deliver-ppv-knockout-on-showtime/ Everyone knows the rest. So, you can probably take Kurt Badenhausen off the list of people who make good boxing PPV buy rate predictors. I think Floyd said himself in the past that you need 6 months to build up a PPV. 3 months is cutting it short.
I believe everyone on this forum has read/heard/seen recordings of those three fights but you being the expert talk as if you remember them, did you watch Johnson v Jeffries live? Canelo v Floyd is the biggest fight you will see in your lifetime so why be such a misery about it, if you were a boxing fan you would get behind this fight and stop looking for things to complain about, yes those 3 fights are legendary but I really hope now in 2013 we have something that might be up there. On Sept 14th ill be watching this HUGE fight, I hope you enjoy your Schmeling-Louis DVD Exactly
