Mayweather beats SRR. But SRR has the much better resume and is higher in a ATG list.

This is a reasonable question.

Mayweather is the best 147 pound fighter we have today, just as Robinson was in his era. We may not favor Mayweather's chances (I don't), but we shouldn't completely dismiss them either.

Let's hear some deeper analysis.

It makes sense to pick Robinson hear, but Mayweather has a real chance.
Robinson is taller at 5′ 11″ compared to 5′ 8″ for Myweather. In terms of reach Robinson 72½″Mayweather 72″. The size diffrence might not be as much as expcted. Experance goes to Robinson who was

Have you even watched any Ray Robinson videos??? here's a video of his 1st fight with basilio you will see his jab many times and take notice around 1:55 that right hand (if mosley can rock mayweather) I'm sure Robinson could stretch him out easy,Robinson hits much harder and faster than mosley and this video is of an older ray and fighting at middleweight.Ray at welterweight was an absolute beast,I respect fellow boxing fans and don't wanna hate on their fighters or nothing but adapting to a mosley and marquez is 1 million times easier than a prime WW Ray Robinson.

I enjoyed watching the video. Thank you. However I don't see anything that would make me change my mind.
Robinson out weighed Basilio by 8 Lbs and still lost. For all the **** Mayweather gets for outweighing Marquez by 4 Lbs. At least he won. I noticed you already made the "He (Robinson) was old" excuse all ready. About the shot around the 1:55 mark of the video. Do you think Mayweather has no hart or no chin? I think he showed this past weekend that he has both. Mayweather is faster than Basilio. He should have an easier time closing any needed distance that Robinson's height might give him.

Robinson was 37 and fighting at middleweight this is not a young prime "WW" Robinson, however he was still a good fighter,as for the punch mosley rocked mayweather bad with his right,go on youtube and watch WW Robinson he hit much harder and faster than mosley. As for the marquez deal you cannot compare him to Basilio, Basilio was one of the most toughest roughest fighters to ever step into the ring he is a MUCH MUCH harder fight than marquez.

You are missing the point there rip...The video was to demonstrate how well Ray used the jab in response to your claim he didnt.

This fight has very little relevance in how a fight between Money and a prime Ray would have went, so trying to pick apart in the defense of Mayweather is stretching it big time.

By the way how much was Mayweather actually outweighing Marquez by fight time? Thats the real question ..Because the weight difference between Ray and Carmen at the weigh in would not have to different come fight time..In this case Robinson's extra weight was a hindrance rather then an advantage.

You have no idea what Ray Robinson was like in his prime. NO IDEA.
I have seen Ray Robinson in his absolute prime, against Henry Armstrong, Jimmy McDaniels, Bobby Dykes, and Randy Turpin at the Polo Grounds...Take my word of this oldtimer...Ray Robinson would have destroyed, Floyd Mayweather. Of this I am certain..The welterweight Robinson, was taller.boxed beautifuly, and hit twice as hard as Mayweather...Mayweather would have never survived a prime robinson's onslaught of punches laden with great speed and power...
Robinson had three times as many fights against great vfighters of the 1940s golden age, when a champion fought OFTEN and against the very best challengers...Can you for example picture Mayweather at 145 lbs , against the 158 pound in prime Jake Lamotta,of 1942-1943. Lamotta of that time was an animal, and he would have ripped the Mayweather of today to shreads...Welterweights that Robby whipped such as Tommy Bell, George Sugar Costner, Kid Gavilan, Bernard Docusen, etc would have beaten Mayweather also...These guys had over one hundred bouts in that rich laden era of the 1940s...Bottom line -Ray Robinson kos Mayweather ,both in their respective primes, for sure...

I have heard about you Burt, good to see someone talk about Ray who has actually seen him live,I'm only 19 but have seen many of Ray's fights on video and he is one of my absolute favorites and like I posted earlier some people don't realize what a beast he was,his skills at WW won't be matched by anyone.I would also pick Ray by K.O.

Burt's not EXAGGERATING, C91, 'n I'm not a fossil mired in nostalgia. The welter SRR was a silk STONE KILLER.

Now we are talking !
I thought I was the only one thinking Mayweather wouldn't last more than 5 rounds against Sugar at 147 (where Robinson was just magic).
He survived wars against the much bigger Lamotta, whom I think would have just killed Floyd like you already said, and fought the likes of Armstrong, Turpin, Olson....

Bottom line?

Mayweather has a lot still to prove before he can be better than an underdog vs Robinson.

I aint shitting on Mayweather as he is without a doubt a very fine fighter but SRR in his prime was as close to the perfect fighter theres ever been. If Floyd mixs it with SRR then its not going past 5 or 6 rounds. If he goes on his bike the entire fight then he could well go the distance but lose on a UD by a wide margin
