    Welcome the to the forum.

You obviously have thought about this in at least some kind of depth, which is great to see.

But jeez man...you are stretching it comparing Corrales and Mosley to Sugar Ray especially Chico.

Also what makes you think the era Robinson fought in was primarily focused on the KO's?
I tend to think the modern era is more this way...in fact a hell of a lot more this way.

Most overhyped prospects these days get that way because they can score highlight reel ko's over their mediocre opposition...Crowds today demand it a lot more because they are far more fickle these days and Boxing has a lot more to compete with.
Watching film from the era can almost make you queasy because they allowed fights to go on even when one guy was taking inhuman punishment..Robinson could very well have had even more stoppages to his name and for that matter against it, if he had forged his career in this era where sometimes fights are stopped at the first meaningful barrage.

Robinson never fought a Mayweather this is true...but he fought many tricky, cagey and skilled boxers, not just brawler types.

What is also true is that Floyd has never fought a fighter with the overall package of a prime Sugar Ray...as much as you want to compare him stylistically to some of Floyds opponents, they just arent in the same league in terms of quality.

Once again welcome mate..pretty good first post.

Good lord, after watching the replay of the Mayweather and Mosely fight last week. the above question of Mayweather vs ray Robinson, should be on the Comedy Channel...Either Mosely at 38 suddenly aged before our very eyes, or because of scrutiny relating to new enhancing testing, Mosely was not the same as before..
And Mayweather is all about defense, and obssessed in not mixing and taking some chances ,to give the fans some combat for their money...
To put Mayweather in the same breath as the greatest fighter I ever saw ringside, borders on sacrilege....Robinson would have absolutely murdered Mayweather, along with a host of welterweights I have seen in the past...
To name a few,Kid Gavilan. Tommy Bell. Johnny Bratton, Emile Griffith, Ray Leonard. Roberto Duran, Tommy Hearns etc...The only virtue Mayweather has is quick reflexes, with a burning will not to get hurt...Not enough against the warriors I have mentioned above...No way...

Dont know about Hearns he was bigger, quicker, and hit harder than SRR,Ray would be in for a brand new experiance,1 that i dont think he would make it out of especially the way he stands straight up thats a bad recipe against "The Hit Man"the fight with Leonard would be very close to.

Corrales = Robinson. We all saw what happened there. Mayweather is the GOAT. Valuev is second, Robinson maybe third or fourth.

And Leonard, Hagler and Hearns make barely the Top 100.

For what? Fighting each other? Can any three people fight each other and be in the top 100 now? What has classic become?!

Corrales was weight drained and facing jail time, the fight would have been very different with a better situation,Mayweather had plenty of chances to fight Chico, but of course he didnt have the nuts,Robinson would have killed lil Floyd,as matter of fact i dont like him against any of the ATG welters except for maybe Benitez and thats a maybe because of their similar styles with the edge in speed going to Mayweather.

In case anyone thought I was being serious, I added the part about Valuev but I guess it didn't work.

 I change them pretty frequently though.

Funny you should say that. I have seen two or three Mayweather VS Leonard threads in the general forum and I don't think it's even a fair fight, so I put up a Mayweather VS Benitiez thread yesterday. http://www.eastsideboxing.com/forum/showthread.php?t=225260

Four people voted that Mayweather would knock Benitez out. :patsch

Benitez takes a better shot and hits harder with a very decent body attack,i dont know i may have to rethink that, considering he's the only man that actually boxed quite good against Hearns and got hurt the least, and we all know Tommy would starch Mayweather out in about 2 rounds.

knocking Benitez is absolutely rediculous,i also dont like Mayweather against Curry either standing in front of the Cobra would be very very dangerous.

Guess what, I was kind of a nice guy putting them in the Top 100. In my eyes they wouldn't even rank higher than 150 with the likes of Armstrong, Ali or Greb.

Newbie, I HAVE seen the welterweights of the 1940s, and I can assure you that Ray Robinson's opponents did not walk on all fours, and some of them were just as clever, punched just as fast ,and fought THREE times more than Mayweather of today..I'll give you a few names that would have probably whipped your idol Mayweather...A few .
    Tommy Bell
    George Sugar Costner
    Jimmy Doyle
    Kid Gavilan
    Jackie Wilson
    Bernard Docusen
    Georgie Abrams
These were a few of skilled and fast boxers that had many more fights than Mayweather..Most had over 100 bouts fighting the toughest opponents [designated by the publics demands], 10 to 15 times a year..Yes Mayweather is good for his pampered times, but what if he had to fight every month or so the toughest challengers, not the "safest", would he still be unbeaten ? Not so say I...
