There was a thread but I can't find it, it showed quotes from eras where people always said the previous eras would have whooped the current era's ass, dating back to even the times of Dempsey etc (a quoted writer I think, said during Louis' reign that Johnson was the greatest HW of all time I forget who though)

Discrediting is as old as the sport

 

I think the history of the sport is too great to have Floyd as a top 25er with his bit part record at 140 and above. Along with the list I have already posted, we have guys like Bivins, Burley, Britton, Jack Johnson, Kid Lewis, Tunney, Hearns, Barbados Joe Walcott, Hagler, Packey McFarland, Jones Jr, Gavilan, Napoles, Lennox, Holmes, Holyfield, Foreman, Arguello, Maxim and Pacquiao who can conceivably rate higher than Floyd.

I'm not trying to discredit him. I think Floyd beats EVERY other Super Feather (I won't include Armstrong in that assessment), but his record at 140+ doesn't cut it for me. Cotto at 147 a few years ago, Margarito, Paul Williams are all names we were denied at Welter alone because Floyd lost the urge to box. I'm sorry, but if you don't respect the sport, the sport wont respect you in the long run.

 

Armstrong was champ in 3 of the original 8 weight divisions. Pac has a tilte in 4 of the original 8 weight divisions and possibly another if he had not skipped the bantamweight division. Both extraordinary feats. Beats me why some rate Pac so distantly from Armstrong who is rated very highly for achieving very similar feats.

 

You didnt read my post properly. I said Armstrong was considered THE BEST fighter in the Featherweight, Lightweight, Welterweight, and Middleweight (robbery aside) divisions. Pacquiao has been a Titleist in each of those divisions, but he certainly wasn't a lineal champion in each of them

 

My opinion they are both Top 50, no **** whatever

Era's and Competition around make things so much easier for fighters legacys'.

I truly feel it takes ATG's to make ATG's

I mean imagine SRL without the the other big three? Or if he fought in this era with this competition?

In this era how many ATG's in or around Pac or Floyd's weights?

When we had those ATG fights alot of the fighters that were in those fights were well established which is why the fights were so big and regarded so highly which is why Pac/Floyd is such a disappointment because the level of fighter they are is scarce today.

Pac and Floyd regarded as the pinnacle right now...the next fighter to come close to they're level are either two divisions up or below.

Pac is so fortunate to ave been able to fight MAB,EMO, and JMM....its rare to get that sort of talent so close.

It was also easier back then because there were more talent per division with just 8....now days its more spread out over divisions and wiegts are manipulated now if you can kind of understand what im saying.

 

Yeah, it was a tad 'suspicious' shall we say. What hurts even more tho is that Armstrong actually beat said Middleweight (Garcia) a few years before at Welter!

Threads on the general usually amuse me, so I tend to throw out names most of these lot have never heard of. Most rank Charles as a top 10 fighter without realising what he achieved, probably because they have seen others do so. If they looked in depth, they would see that Pacquiao and Mayweather's names shouldn't even be in the same sentence as Ezzard!

Floyd was so above the competition he doesn't need to engage in wars. This is an opinion, just like your definition of prime, original weight class, and wars. Idiot.

 

floyd schooles old school fighter like armstrong or benny lenord is easily top 10, just by being as good as he is.

I dont give a **** how many titles you won, back than when dudes were boxing every 2 weeks. for me its who beats who in a p4p sense and floyds reflexes are superior to barely anybody, same for his overall defence and generall movemants!!

sugar ray lenoard, pacquiao or mayweather are easily in the top 10 p4p atg, along with old schoolers who could handle there own even today like ali or robinson.
