Historically Louis Schmelling was ridiculous in terms of its significance but Louis was BY FAR the better man by that time. It was a propoganda fight and politically HUGE as was Ali vs. Frazier for different reasons. I was referring more to the standing of the fighters at elite level HISTORICALLY and less on the importance of the fight in general terms. Thanks for your post bud. A sensible one for a change.
Ali vs Frazier 1 is the closest I can think of. Both Pac & PBF stand above SRL & Duran at the time of their fight, both in popularity and legacy. Of course both SRL & Duran would go on to become greater fighters but at the time they fought, I dont think either guy were rated top 50 ATG's yet. Whitaker-Chavez is pretty close in terms of their standings at their fight but neither were as big stars.
and no way this is bigger than ali-frazier i. you can't create boxing fans out of thin air. the outlook on boxing globally just isn't the same.
JOKE!!....You are an idiot!....I was just saying in advance what posters eventually say about EVERY boxer...moron
the test pattern is broadcast in more countries, so I guess that's considered a global attraction as well. LOL.
Can people actually read? I'll come close to giving you Tyson vs. Holyfield II but both were PAST IT. Name another fight where a PRIME Tyson fought in a HUGE fight against a PRIME "GLOBAL" SUPERSTAR? Thats what I thought!
Was Spinks a global superstar? Tyson was considered by everyone other than the Spinks family as champion and The Jinx was fighting CRAP like Cooney and Tangstead. PLUS Tyson was HEAVILY favoured going in! Do you think it was bigger than Floyd vs. Pac? Seriously???
Define bigger please, in hardcore boxing fans eyes or what? What exactly are you out after? You must realize Tyson himself generated more views globally than Pac and Mayweather combined. If you are talking about hardcore fans being up for it, then yes, you might have a case in saying Pac-Floyd is larger than life.
