Yes and No.

Most of Maloney's shows were some of the worst going, Hatton's were decent, Waz-za just kept feeding his guys bums after bums...

I like it the way it is at the minute.

 

The more fights televised the better. Competition is good. It keeps people honest.

The people who love the Hearn's don't remember the past or are too young to have lived through it.

Unfortunately Wazza is not honest, has not been honest to managers, fighters, other promoters, the media, fans and pretty much anyone else involved in the sport.

I happen to like the matchroom shows for a number of reasons.

1. They look after their fighters
2. They get them regular fights
3. Most (not all) of their shows are filled with good fighters through many weights.
4. They are happy to talk to the fans and explain things
5. They do not try and sue fans, freelance media, fan run websites
6. The commentary, Picture quality and production of their shows is at a good level.
7. They pay their fighters
8. They are not afraid to put two fighters against each other even if both of those fighters are unbeaten

I am not being funny but you only have to look at Paul, Stephen and Liam Smith. Weather you like them or not they were all signed to a certain promoter going nowhere and not getting any fight time. Now look at them, they are doing very well and one of the great family names in british boxing history.

It can not all be a coincidence!

 

I am at a loss to understand this fixation about what goes on outside of the ring!We can all moralise but we all enjoy watching people hit each other repeatedly on the head,for heavens sake!Boxing has always had a history of dodgy characters and dealings....ask Tyson and Holyfield where their millions went!If these Runyonesque characters offend you,have you considered taking up religion all that lot are above reproach...Ha!

 

With all due respect Boxing has always had Monopolies/Cartels controlling the sport particularly in the UK. Frankie W himself made his name being the young hero who broke the Astaire/Duff Cartel which had dominated for decades...

 

I think Sky reacted to the situation rather than proactively nudged ****** out.

 

The quality of Matchroom cards gets hugely overrated. And of course it's hands in pockets time if they happen to put on anything half-decent.

Can you imagine who Brook would be facing if he was still with Wazza? ****ing rematches with Michael Jennings and talk of fighting Mayweather in 'a big one' in the next 18 months.

 

Very true. Don't forget Jack Solomons before Astaire/Duff. If I remember Solomons started in the 1930s as an unlicensed promoter. If anything, the East End of London has held a strong controlling interest in top level UK promotions.

 

Matchroom do a great job. That is why they have gone from being a small promotional outfit to be the dominant force in British boxing in just a few years with a nice Sky deal to go with it, meanwhile the rest are languishing on a backwater satellite channel

 

Small Promotional out? They have been one of the biggest promotional companies in the world for for 25 years. There may have been some ups and downs but since they took over darts in 2003 things have been amazing.
