im really curious about the talent of ray lampkin who lost a fairly close fight to dejesus

two able contenders that fought duran.

i think 138lb catch weight would be interesting

Boy thanks for memories. Ray was beating greatest Roberto Duran till Duran caught him 13 round!!!Ray was CLASSIC boxer good science boxer, stad up good good boxer..Fighter!!! NO PUNCHER BUT ...RING MAG HAD HIM RATED #2 in the world when ratings meant something. As far as Monroe goes ,i knew his Uncle ,he was rushed($$$,,HONEST) he was a Emile Griffith type. He should have learned his craft here at Olympic Aud,under matchmaker Mickey Davis..I forget who they threw him in with , But he beat the hell out of that Korean kid..Saundek Magastrum ??(something like that:lol::lol:)Robbed of dec, I think that HURT him more than anything.Monroe was a VERY VERY nice young man .A fighter who could do IT ALL!!! Channel 5 here televised thur. night we saw LAs best,Mando Ramos Raul Rojas,Frankie Crawford.Monroe was right there(he was good)!!!!!:happy

I still cant help but wince when i see the Body Shot Duran finishes Monroe with !
Ray Lampkin may not of beaten the best, but would have given most a hell of a lot of Trouble, very fast and Skillful - Ray Lampkin Vs Howard Davis Jr might of been an intersting dream fight also ?

Enjoyed this post. Some nice insight. There's plenty of Brooks footage on Youtube. I'm going to checkthat out and Duran - Lampkin soon.

First of all, I really enjoyed watching these two fighters back in the day. This would be a really tough match. The problem with Brooks was that he was a truly gifted boxer who thought he was a slugger. Yes, he could hit, but instead of allowing the KO to happen he went looking for it. I remember his bout with Adolfo Viruet, who was not in Brooks' league IMO. During the middle rounds Brooks boxed him to a standstill, then decided to slug with the pedestrian Viruet and let himself get outpointed. It was always the same with him. Although he decked Muansuring in the 1st round, he could have boxed but trenched it out only to get stopped in the 15th round. It was the same in the Curry fight. He should not have duked it out with him. Lampkin at least stuck to a gameplan and I would lean slightly towards Ray for that reason.
