I don't know man. Cotto isn't a natural MW, and certainly doesn't hit anywhere near as hard as GGG. They way he boxed during certain stretches tonight proved to me at least that Monroe is a live dog at MW and more than capable of beating many top MW'S. In rounds 1, 3 and 4 he was holding his own with GGG, and he arguably won 3 and 4. Certainly round 4. His style is all wrong Cotto, he would pot shot him all night and pick him apart from distance like Trout did making Cotto miss quite a bit. Monroe impressed me tonight, not a bad performance from an 80/1 underdog.

    LoeffingL.

Monroe is a mid level bum who gets beat by any top ten fighter.

Golovkin is a hype job. He's not fighting hitters for a reason.

The 4th round is the only round Monroe won. He got beat up in the rest of the rounds. He's very basic and would get taken a part by Cotto. Monroe is capable of beating many top MWs? Based on what?

You're overthinking here. EVERYONE gets beaten up by GGG. Arguably Monroe has done better against GGG than anyone else in recent years, maybe Murray did better but only in terms of heart/grit and pure survival, Monroe did just as well in regards to how well he boxed against GGG.

I believe the over/under on this fight was either 5.5 or 6.6 rounds. So Monroe did about as well as expected. Where do I rate who? Monroe I rate as a solid fighter who doesn't have the talent or experience to be in there with the top guys. Golovkin, I think he's the best fighter in the division.

Monroe didn't do much of anything out there. He had one good round and eventually quit in the 6th round. Curtis Stevens did better, and you already mentioned Murray. Monroe showed some heart and determination out there, but that's what guys are supposed to do.

i do too. so then his options are fighting the guys coming up, or moving up to fight ward.

I think he would, I said before the fight that I would favor Monroe over any Middlweight not named Golovkin.

I don't know about that, but he would certainly beat Cotto and some of the other top middleweights. N'dam is an interesting fight, Stevens another... By schooling Stevens he could set up some fights with the top names of the division, prove himself against a big puncher and show that he's not glass jawed as some have been saying.

N'Dam might be the only guy that beats (not counting GGG of course). Other than that I think Willie out hustles everyone at 160, so unless they connect on him with something big then I see Willie just staying on the outside and outworking these guys. Nobody at 160 has the cutting off the ring skills GGG does. I'm positive he beats Stevens, unless Stevens lands something. It's difficult to tell how good Monroe's chin is, he was in there against the hardest hitting Middleweight and was hurt several times but can the other guys do it, that's the question. Although he quit I think he showed a lot of heart.
But I have confidence in Willie, I hope to see him back. Watch this win will look better as time goes by. I want to see him against Steven and Johnson, I think he beats both.
