Great stuff. Love the fact that Inoue isn't content with his career and only wants to keep getting better. How can you not like The Monster? He represents everything that's great about boxing. Hopefully after he gets through with TJ Doheny we can finally see him face MJ for December, and then perhaps see him move up to 126 next year.
To add to what Algieri says: He's accomplished what Adrien Broner has accomplished but doesn't have that controversial loss to someone like Pacquiao yet. And who might be his Maidana?
I like Inoue, but he is probably the most overrated fighter today.. I believe hes rated currently in a proper way, he’s awesome and smoking everyone his size….. but he gets overrated when people start talking pound for pound and historically. He passes the eye test with flying colors and I’m not saying he’s hype or anything. He’s definitely legit and an awesome fighter, but his resume leaves a lot to be desired (to no fault of his own*****), especially compared to how his fans speak of him. His best win is Donaire a decade removed from his prime, in a performance that would make you question if he’d beat a prime Donaire - which is fine, Donaire is a great fighter in his own right, but fans are putting Inoue on a level with Pacquiao….
A lot to unpack here.... Usyk beat Fury who was near prime, or at least levels closer than Nonito. Usyk beat Joshua twice. I'd be surprised if Joshua didn't make it. Fury beat Wilder twice. Ruiz beat Joshua. Usyk beat Breidis, who might make it. Bivol beat Canelo. Canelo beat GGG. I'll stop at 160 or I'll be here all night.
Roman González beating Juan Francisco Estrada Juan Francisco Estrada beating Roman González (x2), Srisaket Sor Rungvisai Srisaket Sor Rungvisai beating Roman González (x2), Juan Francisco Estrada All 3 of them are HOF lock and have beaten one another close to their peak. Inoue not facing any of these guys is a black mark on his resume, unfortunately. Only thing he can do is just continue fighting all the top fighters in his weight class and then perhaps try and clear out 126 to make up for missing out on those fights.
So Fury goes life and death with Ngannou and he’s close to peak, makes sense Joshua from the 2nd fight might qualify as peak, the version from the 1st fight sure as hell doesn’t Wilder is not a hall of famer in my eyes, even though he likely makes the cut. Do you seriously think any version of Wilder is even close to as good as that Donaire or any of these other fighters? Ruiz over Joshua yes agreed Briedis is one of my favourite fighters, but he won’t make it How can you be peak if you’re fighting 1-2 weight classes above your best/natural weight? Canelo has also more or less fallen off a cliff since that fight and I don’t buy that it’s all confidence related if you wanna bring that up Canelo beat GGG? Really? Even if you give him the 2nd fight, which I think was a draw, why is a 36 year old GGG peak but a 36 year old Donaire is a shot hasbin? So right now the most clear cut example you’ve listed of a win over a peak fighter is an obese Mexican KOing a very low level HOFer
Weight drained green Estrada is not peak, him beating Viloria a weight up in his next fight doesn’t change my outlook either Estrada over Gonzalez(x2) no Roman wasn’t peak either time, but the win over Rungvisai is definitely a win over a peak HOFer All 3 of Rungvisai’s were against peak HOFers so that’s very impressive by the Thai When I said what I said I sort of forgot Rungvisai existed, which the IBHOF may also end up doing based on some of their other omissions
Listen, let's not get bogged down in the details of who said what and how right it was. It's a lot like the historicity of a lot of religious things. Sometimes you're overlooking the truth because of something which is false if you want to look at it as being actually true and not just the truth. I speak the truth. Whether it's true or not is your hangup, man.
