DAVID HAYE and Monte Barrett fell out over dinner money when they came face to face before tomorrow’s heavyweight showdown at the 02 Arena.

The American claimed Haye’s promotion team had tried to starve him out of the fight. But the Londoner said Barrett was “bitching because he’s scared.”

Barrett — who bragged of his tough upbringing and claimed he carried a revolver on the streets of New York — accused Haye and manager-trainer Adam Booth of:


Demanding a rematch clause in which he would get paid less for the second fight if he beats Haye.


Failing to provide the first-class plane tickets he was expecting.


Putting him in a tiny room in a “sh***y little hotel.”


Turning him into a hungry fighter by starving with a £30-a-day food allowance.

American Barrett, 37, vowed to make Haye pay by wrecking his ambitions of graduating from undisputed world cruiserweight champion to heavyweight king in a planned fight with Wladimir Klitschko, the IBF and WBO world title-holder, next summer.

Barrett said: “I want to fight Klitschko too but after I beat Haye they want me to fight him again for less than I’m getting paid now.
“I’m no joke, man, but they’re trying to treat me like one. They’ve got me stuck up in some sh***y little hotel room. I’m a heavyweight but they gave me £30 a day for food and it costs me £22 for dinner.
“After I beat Haye he can retire and run his promotional company the way it should be run. I want to hurt him and put him in hospital.”
After a slow start to ticket sales, now approaching 7,000 for the 19,000 venue, all but the cheap seats at the 02 are being offered two-for-the-price-of-one.



Barrett blasted: “I came over to fight a superstar — not a bargain.”
Any danger of him pulling out was averted when Booth promised to take the rematch clause out of the contract.
But Haye hit back, telling Barrett: “It will be sorted when you get stretchered out. I don’t want you to go in there and run like a *****.
“I want you to stand and fight like a man because I want to knock you spark out.”
Later he claimed Barrett — stopped in seven by the emerging Klitschko the only previous time he fought in London seven years ago — was looking for a way out.
Haye said: “He’s scared, he’s looking for excuses and talking about everything except the fight, moaning about everything he possibly can.
"But all that bitching won’t help him in the ring. He says he’s from the mean streets and he’s had it rough his whole life and then complains about everything.
“He spends 15 minutes moaning about everything, not enough leg room on his business-class flight, his food, his hotel.
“It’s pretty sad really and just confirms he’s not the mean, rugged guy he’s made out.”

 

can't help but think this was just a ploy to drum up some interest as the tickets are not selling well. he's been here for a week and didn't say a word about not being given enough dinner money

 

this must be the worst attempt to hype a fight ever....starved of dinner money?
