He 2-0'd a young + not fat Toney, and yet people seem to always lump him in with "bums" when they trash RJJ's resume. At the time of the DQ in the first RJJ fight he was only down by point or two up through round 9. Underrated?
Maybe, but he sure got ****ed up in RJJ vs. Griffin II. RJJ's performance was so superhuman that Griffin came across looking like an amateur, guess that has something to do with it.
That was not just a "flash" konckout, within the first 10 seconds he was flying to the ropes, but he still had a chance to get back at him, he did not seem particularly shaken. But he did not. He was fumbling around, letting Jones outbox him with superior reflexes and counterpunching. Does this look like a man who had any chance to win: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=V1Khbw82qUM&feature=related ?
You're telling me Toney won a fight where the scorecards read like this? judge: John Rupert 116-112 judge: Keith MacDonald 116-112 judge: Doug Tucker 119-109 ...All for Griffin?
i'll remember him being the only fighter i know who won a fight on his knees ang being knocked down three times by a single punch
It's simply ridiculous. Jones was as unbeatable in the mid-90's as Tyson was in the late 80's. He was simply faster, stronger and more technically sound than any of his opponents, which was why all of them tried to disrupt his game, rather than actually trying to fight him fair 'n square.
And let's not forget: a 24 year-old Jones outclassed a 28 year-old (physically prime) Hopkins in '93.
