One of my favorite stylistic matchups ever. And as a Jones fan I can appreciate how good Griffin really performed. Griffin took more rounds from prime Jones than any other fighter, and Jones was clearly bothered by Griffin's style which led to his DQ. Ya'll musta forgot.. :yep [YT]ft05fq3kcX&[/YT] [YT]V_ctoLs4cBY[/YT]
Yeah, you're right. Griffin totally pwned Jones. Gave him his first "L" and there was nothing Roy could do!
Griffin did a great job in that fight, especially considering how limited Griffin is. Jones' frustration was CLEARLY the cause for his behavior when Griffin was down.
He did good but he shouldn't get much respect for that as we all know how the rematch went down.Like the song says......''5 months later I needs my crown.......first round,1 punch and he sat down''.
I don't think Griffin was limited, he was a pretty good fighter. He was frustrated but he was on his way to victory to be honest. He had come back a little and had Griffin running all over the place when he got hurt. He was going to KO him. A lot of fighters do that delayed reaction, the ref should've went inbetween the fighters. Fighters, when in a fight, don't think quite clearly in those instances, especially with Jones because he wanted to KO him so bad as he got beat to the punch early on. I give Griffin all the credit in the world. However Jones erased all doubt by KO'ing this guy in the first round in their next fight. He was aggressive as hell, serious, and just wanted to kill that dude. He tried to treat Griffin like a sparring partner and Griffin wasn't having it. That said, Jones showed his champion capacities in the rematch.
And I just want to say that I am far from a Jones detractor, I just think Griffin's performance is a little overlooked.
i thought i posted this already but if its not for the DQ Griffin gets either knocked the **** out or if he miraculously survives he is still behind on points. If the ref steps in quicker and doesn't let JOnes get that punch off while Griffin is on the canvas, then Griffin gets KTFO soon after and we never talk about the scorecards ever again.
Yes he does he gave Jones a lot to think about. He also deserves credit for beating Toney.Montell was a very good fighter.
I think Jones fouled to get his way out of the fight. Griffin was on the way to shattering that Glass Jaw and Roy knew it so he took the easy way out.
He beat Toney Officially but i think Toney won the first by a slight margin and then was robbed in the rematch.
