I'd love to see a guy 5ft6/7 not named Duran win a half-minute spell against the loose and flowing Calzaghe, who let shots go without setting

It just seems very odd to me.

You underrate him as a fighter, but then exaggerate his performance over Roy.

    It doesn’t make sense.

You should watch him again. He is a pretty interesting fighter that does some unconventional things. I saw him fight live in an amateur tournament once and he looked sensational. One thing that I always found odd about him is that you would think with being a 5'7 LH he would excell on the inside but he was the exact opposite. He did most of his best work on the outside using angles and footwork to get in and counter and step out and away. He was a complete fighter and the only guy that really gave a prime Roy Jones difficulty. Watch that first fight and he definitely had some success against Roy. I still think he ultimately would have lost that fight had the foul not happened but he certainly gave a good account of himself as he did against Toney.

I still think Joe beats him on volume punching but I think Montell was very underated and would beat a lot of really good fighter at 175.

It’s never that simple though is it.

Joe was far better than Reid and Bika on paper, but they gave him very tough fights.

Joe only fought twice at LHW, and Griffin was very awkward.

Joe never fought a small, defensive counter puncher like that before.

We can’t just assume he’d have gone in there and beaten him with ease.

Weight classes are irrelevant these days with the day-before weigh-ins.

I think it's more of a case of you revisionista sookies overrating Montell Griffin more than anything else. The far superior Calzaghe would outspeed, outpunch and outfight Griffin ...he would trounce him for a decision...and taunt him "whilst" he was in the process.

I agree that Calzaghe would win but Griffin was a a former Olympian that was incredibly skilled. Do you honestly think Eddie Futch would have wasted his time on him if he wasn't talented? Calzaghe wouldn't taunt a fighter like Griffin as you say. He would have to much respect for him because he was a danm good fighter that was not an easy out.

How do you know he's American? And this American gives Griffin
no chance prime vs prime by the way.
