I believe Griffin deserves alot of credit.

I don't think he was winning the RJJ fight but he definetly posed some problems to superman Roy and took some rounds off him...i believe i actually had it pretty close before the DQ.

Aside from that whilst i believe he lost the 2nd Toney bout in my mind he won the first one and to me thats the best win of his career...as someone else mentioned 3rd best LHW of his era behind Dariuz and RJJ....titlist a few times WBC and IBF

    A very good career indeed.

they weren't 9 years apart so in actual fact its not correct

plus i pissed myself when Jones went on about becoming this unstoppable evil entity "RJ" then promptly went and got sparked out in the second round :rofl

A very good but not outstanding boxer. He didn't have a flashy style, impressive physical attributes or really anything, except skill and an aptitude for using what he had very well. He beat Toney when he was still green has grass; put up a better showing in the first RJJ fight than pretty much anyone else did against Roy in those days; and generally had good to great performances against the best of his era. In an age when light-heavyweight meant "duck-heavyweight", he fought everyone who was willing to fight him.

He gave Jones problems in there first bout.Anyone that says he didn't is crazy. At one point I had Griffin leading and Roy FOULED Griffin while Griffin was on his knee.Roy lost on DQ which he should have because it was a foul.

Montell was a great fighter, he showed that in his 1st fight with RJJ and in his 2 fights with Toney.

But c'mon... he didn't really win these fights. Well, officialy he won, but he didn't beat RJJ or Toney. All these fights were close, but RJJ was clearly getting the upper hand before he disqualified himself by hitting Griffin when he was down/on his knee, and Toney deserved the nod in both fights imho, so let's not overrate Griffin
