I really can't pick a winner at super-bantam. Montiel's a far superior fighter, but he was already past his prime before the Donaire fight, god knows what condition he's going to be in now, with the added poundage. But then, of course, Cermeno, lost to Terrazas upon his move up in weight, should be interesting.

So Montiel won by TKO (or RTD) at the start of the 3rd round, when Cermeno decided not to come out of his corner, and was counted out by the referee. Montiel appeared to land several hard body shots in a clinch right at the conclusion of the second round, Cermeno went down at the bell, although it was not rules a knockdown, Cermeno appeared hurt however. When the bell rang for the 3rd round, Cermeno rose to his feet, but did not come to the center of the ring, making it clear he had no intention of carrying on. He was counted out, and Montiel won his first fight at 122 pounds.

The left hook to the body at 2:50 does the damage I think he folded up right after.

Good win for Montiel. He's back in buisness.

    Encouraging signs for KO-Chul fans.

He was better than I anticipated he would be. In a lot of his more recent fights he's looked just plain tentative, but here he kept busy, a lot of feints and he kept that jab flowing, which he really doesn't do as often as he should do.

Anybody else notice how he ended it? What's become Montiel's specialty, by laying a cunning trap. He kept intentionally dropping his left hand a tad, waiting for Cermeno to unload a right hand, and when he did, KO-Chul would duck under and rip a left hook to the body. They were falling short for the most part, but when he finally connected cleanly, it was enough to end it. Good to see he hasn't lost his sense of timing, because it's absolutely imperative if he is to have success. If he can't retain his timing, he'll be done for very quickly.

He said he wants a Donaire rematch but at 122. Anybody intrigued by this? I wouldn't have any doubt The Flash would win, but if Montiel were to fight like this he'd definitely give a better account of himself. He wasn't as stationary here, which is what allowed Donaire to find a rhythm so early on in their first encounter. He'd last a few more rounds and get stopped in less brutal fashion for me.

    I'd rather see Montiel-Donaire 2 than Donaire-Moreno if I'm honest.

"I was very nervous about the fight, because I knew that if I lose for a second time (in a row) it would be a lot harder to get myself up from the floor. I knew that I had to have a clear victory and I'm very happy with the way things went. I caught him with a good hook to the liver and it was the type of shot where he would have never recovered from in the fight. I'm hoping to get a shot at another world championship and then I want to get a rematch with Donaire."
