Montiel now happy with the money and going to Japan to fight Hasegawa.

Kudos to Montiel for fighting in Hasegawa's hometurf tho I think Hase stops him.

That just goes to show how much money japanese promoters have.

Anyone would be willing to risk losing a hometown decision because the monetary reward is so enticing.

I'm just not sure who would win though.

Cochulito had fought in Germany and Philippines and came out victorious. This hometown thing is not new to him. I still think Hozumi stops him tho.

Oh yeah- for a lower weight fighter, Japan can be very profitable. On the plus side for Montiel, I believe I've heard that Japan doesn't even recognize the WBO so Fernando's title might not even be on the line. In that scenario, I think it's well worth the risk of traveling.

Plus, everyone's going to assume he'll be robbed anyway so that provides a convenient excuse even if he's legitimately defeated.

Nothing to lose for Montiel? Naahh, if he loses, he will have less chances for another big fight specially if Hozumi KOs him.

props to montiel if it happens. he would be fighting hasegawa in his opponent's natural weight class and in his own hometurf. it's like when montiel went to gorrez' hometurf to defend his title. major respect to him win or lose. :good

The best part? Even if a US network doesn't pick it up, we'll get to hear it with Japanese announcers. :D

Thats awesome. Ive wanted to see Montiel in a big fight for years, but unfortunately I think his best days are behind him.
