This content is protected WBO super flyweight champion Fernando Montiel has offered Z The Dream Gorres a rematch. www.insidesports.ph has learned that the rematch offer was made by international matchmaker Sampson Lewkowicz and coursed to the Gorres handlers led by the respected father-and-son team of Tony and Michael Aldeguer of the famed ALA Gym. We also understand that the handlers would meet this afternoon to study the offer for the rematch which will be part of the big Top Rank fight card at the plush Venetian in Macau which will also feature IBF flyweight champion Nonito The Filipino Flash Donaire in a mandatory title defense against South Africas Moruti Mthalane. Top Rank promoter Bob Arum himself told us some time ago that Jorge Arce would also see action on the same card on October 11 as well as North American Boxing Federation super bantamweight champion Bernabe Concepcion. Montiel won a controversial split decision over Gorres to retain his title in March last year in Cebu. damn, the champion is the one who's offering for a rematch Well to settle the score once & for all...bcoz in their last meeting it was a close fight...:thumbsup
I felt Gorres was robbed the first time, but after noticing Montiel's latests performances and Gorres, I have to pick Montiel by TKO. Montiel is a beast and Gorres can not fight at a full pace for 12 rounds, hes like a filipino version of Zab Judah.
I think it makes sense for Mijares to go up against Vic. He would look really good busting him up for 12 rounds while unifying the original 3 belts (WBC, WBA, IBF). Then he could fight the winner of Montiel-Gorres for all 4 belts and the possibility of being named best super flyweight of all-time. Vic is TV-friendly as well, and while Montiel showed some KO power in his last fight on HBO, neither he nor Gorres bring the type of hype or fan support that a fight with Vic would get.
They should do Vic vs. Montiel on a undercard and Mijares on the main event against a worthy opponent to set up a big unification fight down the road.
Ive read somewhere that Gorres has already accepted the Arce fight.. I also think that Montiel became a much better fighter since that fight with Gorres. Still I cannot count Gorres out, he is a live dog
. . . then Gorres should take it. He should grab the opportunity. So many fighter cannot get a crack at the title holders. Opportunity is knocking twice on his door. The first fight was close . . . it's an SD. I don't see any reason why Gorres would not accept it. In another thread I have opened . . . he accepted an offer to fight Arce for an eliminator for the IBF belt.
Montiel needs to fight Mijares for the linear and ring belt. I think Donaire should fight Gorres next and the winner can get a title shot.
Gorres already accepted the offer . . . but the article says Arce might not accept it and in that case it will be Gorres and the next rated challenger . . . so why not get the Montiel offer instead?
Arce should accept this to get a chance at the title. I think arce is a more winnable fight for gorres. if gorres takes the montiel rematch, he must come in a superb condition so as to avoid his championship rounds debacle from happening again.
Gorres' only problem is his stamina . . . other than that I can see Gorres winning clearly against Montiel. Maybe it's time to hire a new conditioning coach. :yep
maybe he should find a mountain in cebu and train there. i've seen a video footage of ALA gym, it has it's own oval track. maybe it's not enough that he does his roadwork there.
