Usually in the case of a fourth round knockout the idea of a rematch isn't the first thing that springs to mind. In this case, given that it was an upset and major title change, and how quickly the tide turned based on more or less a single punch (actually, it was a double hook but either one would have sent Hozumi on his way by itself), this is one that seems justified. Perhaps in Montiel's own backyard, he wouldn't necessarily have to worry about needing the KO the way one does on the road. The most likely outcomes would still seem to be a repeat stoppage for Montiel, or a points win if Hasegawa is able to be more careful. The thing is, Hasegawa gave Montiel's right hand a lot of respect, dancing away from even a hint of a feint with it, but completely humbugged the hook (probably thinking his own execution superior and falling overcondifently into the whole "don't hook with a hooker" mystique). He learned the hard way that Fernando has power in both hands. Being wary of that, could Hasegawa build upon the work he did early and safely outland Montiel over twelve rounds? :think
Hasegawa wins 9 out of 10 fights with Montiel.:deal let them go their way.. the Japanese should face Poonsawat or even go up to 126lbs.. Montiel should fight Perez
Hasegawa can outbox them both to some wide decision. He probably thougt he was dominating today and was willing to score a big win so he got into the infight and was caught cold but that was not the way he should have fought..
Just watched Nishioka brutally despatch a fighter called Jesus Garcia. The left he hit him with was so hard the poor guy bounced off the canvas! The mans a brute of a fighter no doubt. Hats off to Veeraphol for beating him twice.
Hasegawa is certainly the better fighter. Granted it was only 4 rounds in but he was clearly beating Montiel. I'd take Hasegawa in the rematch.
I think Hasegawa wins but this fight could be great. Would prefer both fighters to go onto someone else now though.
A rematch would definitely be cool. It was a good fight up until the stoppage and it was well worth staying up until 5. I think it would only be fair if it was in Mexico.
You stayed up? :scaredas: I do that out of necessity for Tua fights. Here, the alarm went off at 6am...just in time to pop an English muffin during the ring walks. :good The cool thing about a rematch in Mexico would be that it would take place at a reasonable time (for us...maybe not for the Japanese :yep)
Yea, I had a good feeling I would be able to watch the fight because earlier this year I was able to catch the Poonswat fight and also Pong-Kameda. That's a huge reason it would be great if it was in Mexico, we would be able to watch the fight at a normal time. lol.
Maybe if all three judges are Mexicans. That's a common misconception people have. There's usually at least one judge from the hosting nation, but two is rare and three is almost unheard of. The likelihood of corruption has more to do with who the promoter or sanctioning body is than where it's taking place. Case in point: not one Japanese judge in Montiel-Hasegawa I.
