HOw does this fight go and does it look any different than their meeting at a higher weight? I believe it does and Duran could test the chin of Tommy and get to him like Leonard did. Thoughts?

Duran could never deal with Thomas Hearns right hand. Fighting Buchanan and Palomino is no answer to fighting Thomas Hearns. Hearns KO 6. It would be tougher than the fight in 1984 when Hearns had experience fighting Pipino Cuevas,Ray Leonard and Wilfred Benitez, but he still uses his jab to outbox and then stop Duran who is just too slow for Hearns!!!!!!

As a Duran fan it pains me to say but I think Tommy is just all wrong for Duran. His advantages in size & reach combined with what he brings to the table offensively are just too much for Roberto.

Don't get me wrong, he can/should do better than he did against Hearns in 1984 but I still see him losing.

Duran could never deal with the speed of fast legends like Hearns. He always beat the slower guys who were never in his class but when he was matched against top guys he usually failed! That is why I think he would lose easily to my man Pernell. Sweet pea would have outboxed Duran and made him look foolish. Hearns would have just knocked him out at welterweight!!!! Why put up a fight which already happened??? Make a thread where Duran is matched with someone he never fought Pernell!!!!! He did fight Hearns and we saw the result. Duran was outclassed!!!!! Pernell would outclass him in a boxing lesson!!!! Pernell had the speed and skills to outbox Roberto Duran!!!

leoanrd was faster than Duran and so was Wilfredo Benitez!!! ANd Hearns was just as fast as Leonard!!!!!!! Hearns would knock Duran on his face at either 147 or 154!!!!

Funny enough.. Since SRL was faster than Duran... This version of peak Duran NOT the blown up version of Duran that fought Hearns... DID hit SRL. Seems to me, if Duran hit Hearns with the punches he was able to land on Hearns... It would be game over. That Duran was a monster and was relentless. I see the fight playing out a lot like SRL vs. Hearns.. Eventually Duran gets to Hearns.

Hearns right would land before anything Duran threw and Hearns would knock him out and Duran would say he was out of shape or had to use the bathroom!!!! The guy is overrated!!!!!!!!! Hearns is no Palomino or Buchanan my friend!!!!!

Duran didn't get to Sugar Ray in 15 rounds, not to Benitez, demolished by Hearns at 154. and yeah he would be too much for Hearns at 147!!!!! Duran would get outclassed by Whitaker and too bad it could not have happened.... But Duran can beat 9 fight Davey Moore!!! what a joke!!!! Match Duran with someone beatable like Palomino and not a great like THomas Hearns!!!!!

The fight would end like the fight in 1984 only a few rounds more. Hearns probably beats Duran up so badly Duran would never have recovered to beat Moore or Barkley for those upper weight titles! Good thing Duran never fought Hearns at welterweight.

I always saw Tommy winning at welterweight easily enough. The style will still be there, although it might take longer to stop Duran at welterweight when Hearns was less experienced. Does Duran have a chance? Sure he does with his right hand if he could land, but a big if. I doubt his left would land much at all against Hearns. Duran would not sit back and be beaten up, he would know he cannot do much against Hearns on the outside with Tommy picking him apart up and down with his jab, so Duran would take more chances and walk into big punches like he did in round 2 in 1984 against Hearns. He knew he had to take chances and he tried and landed a decent right on Tommy. But that is not enough to get Tommy out of there. Tommy is not as good defensively as Ray, so Duran would try and land his right but it would always come up short with Hearns landing the big counters. Stylewise Duran has almost no chance with Hearns at 147 or 154. Too tall and reach and speed. At 160 it would get more interesting since Hearns slowed down a little then, but still Tommy would win mid round knockout. I don't think Duran can beat Hearns.

    Correct:yep

Just checkout the 6th round when SRL decided to stop poncing about & stepped into Hearns he nearly KO'd him & broke his rib with that left to the body & only the bell saved Hearns from being KO'd. Duran would jump all over Hearns who did'nt even know how to clinch, Duran would smash him to bits:yep

This ai'nt a stand up straight like a weather vane Cuevas, Hearns would come out looking to bomb Duran & he'd end up getting battered & chased into the ropes & wrecked & if SRL can't hold Duran off then no way could Hearns cope period. It's all there to see in that 6th round & Hearns is a dead man once Duran slips under his jab. Hearns could'nt cope with the pressure that SRL put on him & he'd fold rapid like he did with SRL once Duran gets at him:deal

once Duran slips under Tommy's jab Tommy hits him with the right hand. There is nothing Duran can do with Tommy. Duran had no answer for Tommy's right hand. Everytime Duran dipped low Tommy hit him with the right. When Duran was in front of Tommy, Tommy landed the jab. When Duran lunged in to get to Tommy's body, Tommy hit him with counter lefts. Even when Duran hit Tommy with that right hand, Tommy reset measured him with the right and landed numerous right hands on Duran.
With Tommy's speed there is nothing Duran could have done. One moment you guys say Duran was this small lightweight who could not deal with guys like Hearns,Benitez or Leonard or shouldn't have been able to. Next you guys sayd he would batter Hearns and chase him into the ropes. You cannot have it both ways. If Duran could batter Hearns like you say he could, then certainly you think Duran was capable at 147 and 154 pounds to beat Hearns. They were matched up when both were champs at 154. 7 pounds and 3 years will not change much but a few rounds.

Duran was untrained, over-partied and over-the-hill for Hearns. We have no idea how this fight would have gone down at welterweight, and with a closer to prime and properly trained Duran.

My gut tells me Duran wins 7 times out of 10 over Hearns. Though smaller, he was just that much better all around.
