I agree with this, there were 2 Duran's...the Special Intelligent, smooth boxing aggressor that beat DeJesus, Cuevas, Moore, Leonard 1, Barkley and then there was the less-trained-drained-over-partied version that had a bad night vs Hearns...Duran of Montreal would stop Hearns IMO but Duran would have to be in condition in a tough fight but he would get to Hearns like Hagler & Leonard 1
Years ago I read that Duran needed the money and only trained for 2 weeks to fight Hearns. Duran partied way too much. He beat Barkley, went 15 rounds with Hagler. Duran was the greatest lightweight champion of all time. When he went up in weight he jumped two weight divisions to fight Leonard.
Wow you don't type like a total turd in classic. Great to see! Anyways back to the topic Although the 1980 version of Duran was an otherworldly-animal, I believe that the Hearns who fought Leonard had the necessarily tools to fend that beast off. There is a 6 inch advantage in height here and a very significant difference in reach. It would be way too much for Duran to overcome. The long reach jabs, the danger of the beastly right hand, the boxing ability. The height difference is one of the main reason as to why I don't think Duran can pull this one off. Stylistically and physically a nightmare matchup for Duran. 154 or 47. That's just how I see it. The jabs IMO would be the huge difference maker, there is no safe route for Duran to get on the inside and make it a brawl. He'd eat too many of those lethal rights to try and do so and be out on his shield by the time that happens. 8/10 for Hearns here.
No version of Duran could beat any version of Hearns....people are comparing what Leonard did against Hearns Duran cant do the things Ray can do....Ray had good luck along with Hearns being weight drained and being before his prime and Hearns still rearranged Leonard's eye and his career thoroughly showed his superior speed reach and power and Leonard is blazing fast and Hearns made him look outmatched and slow....Duran could not have done that I repeat Duran does not have Rays skillset speed or power all you Duran fanboys need to let it go...if he didnt get flattened which still would have happened he probably would've quit if he was that lucky....Leonard embarrassed Duran, Hearns would hurt him and took his will...
