Castillo was a dam good educated pressure man, he's poorer than Chavez in all areas, he had a tremendous left hand from a technical perspective, and yes he was a hard working pressure man who was strong as ****, had an ATG chin with no reservations and worked off a fine left jab and left hook. The only real difference between him and Chavez from a stylistic perspective is that Chavez' best shot was his right cross, and Chavez was more versatile in that he was a fine and still underrated back foot boxer.

Most argue that Duran had trouble with "boxers" based on Leonard II and a couple of lightweight fights where he didn't care enough to train hard and was content to stalk around and take them into deep water. I look at Leonard I and see a peaking Duran fighting Leonard tooth-and-nail and afterwards acknowledging that Leonard was the best he faced. Why? It was not the movement. It was Leonard's offense.

If Mayweather can move economically and gain Duran's respect in the pocket with strong, short shots, and I think he can, he would fare better than if he fought him like he did De La Hoya. That waiting crap would give Duran a green light to take control and once he does take control, he very rarely gave it up.

Mayweather is physically strong now, and he is bolder but not to the point where his offensive and defensive technique are suffering. That, combined with speed and power would give Montreal Duran problems.

    ...I hope I'm clearer now!

he was called a workhorse in a post by Lora, my post was born of accumulation, that's why i said yet again, it happens a lot here. Maybe I jumped the gun a little bit, I was solely focusing on the 'workhorse' aspect of the post, not the 'Ramirez' aspect. They were mentioned in different sentences of the post so I differentiated.

Technically I was correct in doing so. You know me Barry;)

He wouldn't have to. Duran is not going to hit him. The whole point of the boxing style of a Floyd or Leonard (or Benitez) is to hit and not get hit, and Duran has shown he cannot deal well with that style from a guy who is elite who can demonstrate that level. Remember it isn't like Floyd is not going to hit Duran. Leonard was hitting Duran solidly in round 8 to the body and head that I think he was headed for a stoppage had it continued.. I am not a Floyd fan, but do you really think Moore and Barkley are the level of Mayweather? That is the whole point about Duran. He never beat Hearns,Benitez, he beat Moore and Barkley at that weight. And some say, well he was 20 pounds above his natural weight. Hearns was 30 above his at 32 years old (same age Duran was when he fought Hearns) and Tommy outboxed Hill, who was undefeated and had 10 title defenses.

And about Floyd. Some of you think Duran would just hit him since there are 12 rounds for him to catch up to Floyd. The boxers who are elite like Floyd or Benitez or Leonard know you have to hit a guy and get respect and then fight your fight. He is going to land, and I think he hits hard enough. Floyd would land clean punches on Duran when Duran stepped in which would convince Duran not to go wild on him. It worked on Duran before to land solid punches on him so he doesn't walk in recklessly.

you know the problem Addie. When it comes to any fighter the same points will be repeated over and over in favor of them or not in favor. The guys who mention Duran say the same points about him over and over saying he will brutalize anyone he steps in the ring with, well he didn't brutalize Leonard or Hearns or Benitez. I cannot agree with Duran brutalizing Floyd when you put the style of Floyd and compare it to the guys who beat Duran. Duran vs. the elites were losses. Some will say "well he was above his weight when he fought them" Well most greats beat elites moving up. Hearns beat elite above his weight, Leonard,Spinks etc etc. And Duran never fought an elite at lightweight, so we have to figure there was something to the level of fighting those guys. What facts do we have that Duran brutalizes Floyd? Davey Moore? Barkley? A Leonard who fought Duran's fight and then fights his fight in the next two fights and outclasses Duran? The two remaining fights are what we would see Mayweather in his style vs. Duran.

Cuevas in my mind was great when Hearns fought him and he was champ. Duran was champ but the WBA stripped him, but he never lost that title and it was at 154 when Hearns stopped him. Hagler knocked out Hearns, Leonard stopped Hearns and Benitez. Delahoya stopped Chavez. Tyson stopped Spinks and Holmes for the title.. Saying Hearns is not great at 160 is probably accurate, but he beat a level in Virgil Hill was was elite in my opinion. And Duran is considered by some top 10 ATG.. To only beat one great who then outclassed him in the two remaining fights is not really proof he was top 10 atg or any reason to think he would beat Floyd.

I never said Floyd was that great or top 10 ATG. But he is an elite level fighter who boxes at a high level. He would duplicate what Leonard and Benitez did to Duran and win a decision.

You have to admire MAG's consistency at least.

Who else reels off 4 posts in the same thread in a row?

MAG.. Duran beat more quality fighters than Hearns beat..

Cuevas, Palomino, Leonard, Ken B, De Jesus, Barkley just to name some. That list right there is better than the list of who Hearns beat. He never beat SRL as Duran did which is the best fighter EITHER of them faced. The next best fighter they both faced, could be argued was Hagler.. Duran did better against Hagler than Hearns did and was more past his prime and best weight than Hearns. Same with Barkley.. another common foe Duran did better again more past his best. When you compare the two.. it really isn't even close between Hearns and Duran. Sure Hearns beat Duran, but again, Hearns was more prime and at a way better weight than Duran was. Plus I kinda view that fight as just one of those nights. You give me a Duran at his best at Welter and Hearns at his best.. I think Duran takes that fight more times than not. If SRL can tax hearns weak chin.. you best believe Duran at his best could and would.

I hear what you're saying. I don't think anyone's having an easy time against Floyd, including Duran, but I don't think Floyd would be doing any more than making it a relatively competitive fight for Duran with that game plan, either. Duran was simply levels above guys like old Mosley and Ortiz, so much so that the comparison would cease to hold merit if not for the Leonard equation, but then you have to take into account Leonard's clear superiority to Floyd both as a physical specimen and as an offensive fighter at the weight.

Either way he fights, Floyd's losing, and losing clear. He wouldn't make an ass of himself, but there's no way he's winning against a A-game Duran.
