Duran all the way. he was an animal at that time, and Tommy would have been mauled and chewed to pieces.
I think this is an interesting question. At firs I was thinking this would be no different then their MW fight and that styles makes fights etc...but Duran is far and away the biggest beast I've ever seen fight. I'm pretty sure he'd knock tommy out in 7 or 8 if he could get passed the first 2.5 rounds.
My thoughts from a thread asking the same question: Hearns should be favored stylistically, but this scenario is a feasible one all things considered.
Montreal Duran stops Tommy late. 154 obviously Tommy taking on the technical jab, jab, big right hand version of Duran. Same one Benitez beat. Montreal Duran was a different beast.
It's still a stylistic nightmare for Duran. Hearns isn't losing any power here though Duran was an absolute force of nature himself when he was on point at the weight (See: Palomino, Leonard I). Literally every facet of his game was vastly superior to the best version of 154 Duran. Tough fight, though I don't know if he can keep things inside for the duration and avoid getting caught and hurt by Tommy's right.
Duran showed in 1984 he cannot take Tommy's right hand. Funny thing is Duran fans say Hearns had all the advantages, so why wouldn't he win. Then when you match him here they say Duran mauls him. So what is it? Hearns had all the advantages and it was not fair, or Duran mauls him. To say Duran mauls him then means Duran was not as disadvantaged as some say, and he could have won since he was champ at 154 as was Hearns.
Tommy would hit Duran with his right at any weight. To think Duran fought a guy with Hearns right hand power ever in his career would be wrong. Duran could not take Tommy's punch. In 1984 Duran was hurt by a counter left by Tommy and lifted off the canvas by a bodypunch. Tommy was too fast.
