Thanks. A fighter does not have to be charismatic to be a great fighter. Is he supposed to be running for president? I only care how he handles himself in the ring, not his mouth nor his other activities. I do not care for braggarts or flashy Muhammad Ali copycats, I usually turn down the sound on the television or change the channel.

 

Maybe you should assemble Fan Clubs for other fighters or assemble threads for those that are in love with Steroids.

 

Good for you. The crap people give Monzon, and Emile Griffith for the same reason really turns me off. They beat lots of great fighters legitimately, that's what makes them great. Same goes for Harold Johnson, Jimmy Young, Zora Folley, and Eddie Machen. I will forever offer props to those guys. Plus, they were not as boring as people's imaginations think.

 

It is just that people are in love with braggarts and flashiness. I did not care for what Monzon did to his wife but in the ring, he defeated what opponents were put in front of him. He did not boast what he was going to do to his opponents or wear some ridiculous Goddy outfit in the ring, I sometimes think it is pure Racism, he did not speak English, I write, read, and speak Spanish. Monzon did not prance around the ring like some Dork, he fought like a fighter is supposed to fight. I think there is some resentment towards him because of his accomplishments, he retired as champion, their favorites did not.

 

Why do say it is not Racism? How do you know he made those threats to others, were you there? You are not a fan, tell me about his fights. I do think you like to instigate, to see others get into it. If I were you I would be careful doing that, it never works out. Floyd Mayweather was extremely arrogant, like to slap around his wife and kids, so that is okay, he is considered Godly because of his style. You recently got yourself in trouble for commenting on another poster, time to grow up youngster. You need the help of a licensed Therapist to find out why you do instagative things.

 

When I say that Bernard Hopkins gives good interviews it’s because he gives a lot of insight...he actually rights a column for ring magazine ...Robert Duran never spoke English...and he gets worshipped on boxing forums

 

I do think that there is a double standard though, Floyd Mayweather has slapped his wife around, took things from his kids, he is considered Godly because of his flashy style. But Floyd speaks English, is American. I know Carlos killed his wife, it does not impress me, I do not believe in harming women but Monzon was a winner in the ring. He fought his own style, not copying someone else. I am glad that Carlos and I ran into each other in 1979. I do not take it from others when they try to pile on me, if I get banned for defending myself then so be it. This site is not my entire life like Moron Posters think of this site, I have real friends, not keyboard ones.

 

Monzon was a master of timing and distance, the true essence of boxing, not "speed" or "power", two factors that are more on timing and distance than anything else. Anyways, the casuals don't see these things and reveal themselves with their opinions on a fighter like Monzon.
