Watching Monzon vs Briscoe it's very, very difficult to imagine this happening. It would be great if someone were to ask Antuofermo about it again, maybe he can elaborate on what he knows.

Good God, people. Boxing is not arithmetic. Crazy, unpredictable **** happens all the time when two highly skilled fighters go at it, especially in a sparring situation. Again, Georgie Benton says any 160 pounder can KO any other man. I'll take his word for it. And if you don't think Monzon could not punch, you are sadly mistaken. I've been hit right by a shitty, feather-fisted middleweight and it gave me stress fracture because it was just delivered and met with by me in just the right way. Some of you sound like absolute neophytes.

You are not Joe Frazier though. Crazy stuff happens and Benton said a 160 lber can KO a heavyweight. This doesn't mean Monzon KO'ing Frazier ever happened.

    The facts

Joe Frazier is a durable 205-215 lber
Monzon is a good but not great puncher at 160
Frazier is known to take it out on his sparring partners, just ask Larry Holmes or Ken Norton
Monzon didn't condone hard sparring and preferred to take it easy
Why would Frazier spar with Monzon in the first place?

Sure we can believe in it based on Antuofermo's words and the fact that crazy stuff can happen. I'm just choosing not to, because it goes against pretty much everything I've read on these two. If something new comes up, like actual proof, then I'll consider it. For now it's just another story among many in boxing.

Monzon is a MW with a MW punch.

And probably sparring with 16 ounce gloves.

Bob Foster's punches bounced off Frazier like BB's.

Hard to be the puncher in a fight when you're being forced backwards.

I agree that the story is 100% bull**** so you're not going to get any arguments from me here.

My point is not that the story is true but that it is not terribly beyond the realm of possibility. They were not in a fight, so the Foster analogy doesn't work. **** happens in sparring and sparring is not always fighting on equal terms or with equal focus and mindset. This would be something more analogous to the agreed fight of Jack Johnson-Stanley Ketchell. And Monzon could pop. His method though was not to load up, especially in the early going.

And I always reckoned I would take Frazier.

    A little ironic, ain't it.

I don't think I believe it, but it's not out of the realm of possibility. By no means...

When was this meant to happen anyway, before the Licata fight?

Yeah, you've mentioned Benton's quote and i'm sure posters have taken note, that's besides the point. People are suspicious because the story had never come out before. What, were the whole gym on a vow of silence? Did Joe threaten them with a beating is they told the newspapers and trade mags? Monzon KO'ing Frazier in sparring is a massive story that would have been picked up and re-told thousands of times- if it happened.

If Monzon cheapshots Frazier...then he has one of two choices.....get the hell out of the ring....or proceed to have Frazier beat the sh*t out of him "heavyweight style".

Lol great graphics. I didnt think there was any footage or Zale vs Graziano though? Or was the stuff they used for Zale from a different fight.
