Monzon would out work Hagler from begging to end. Monzon was extremely intellegent and just knew how to win tough fights. Hell he didn't lose for some 22 years or so. He had close fights but always found a way to out hustle the other guy. Unless Hagler landed the perfect punch (and Monzon had a good chin) I can't see Hags winning. Monzon UD 15. Doh, I stand corrected. It's 13 years undefeted not 22.
Monzon UD 15 or late cuts stoppage. Carlos too smart and relentless. keeps pumping the jab and right cross to keep marv away, ties up marvin every time he tries to work in close. The taller, bigger and stronger man to boot. Very good reflexes and defense to avoid the bigger shots, coupled with iron chin and great 15 round stamina. The ultimate winner, undefeated as champion in 15 title fights and unbeaten in his last 13 years and 80 odd fights as a pro... There is no strategy for hagler to win this fight (as great as marvin was.) against the best middleweight head to head and resume wise (greb excepted.) of all time.... Monzon is THE most underrated of all fighters, and if he was american this guy would be in the top p4p (or better.) and the number one middle by consensus of all time. (greb aside for obvious reasons.)
Tremendously difficult fight for both. Hagler never really got hit with a lot of jabs, partly due to his southpaw stance. His own jab, his most underrated punch, would set up Monzon for a steady body attack. A close UD for Marv.
