Technically brilliant and extremely exciting in a tactical way for true fans of the sweet science... extremely boring to the casual fan....you know the ones who think gatti vs ward is a masterpeice between 2 top notch boxers.
I think it would get exciting toward the end because either one would be trying to catch up or both would be trying to break away.
Hopkins is a great, great fighter. But with Monzon, you had this guy who was just so proficient and perfect in the way he fought.....this is just completely unpredictable....but my gut says Monzon
great bout, Monzon was so strong on inside, guys who tried to get in on him said it was like being grabbed by guy with steel arms. I'd pick Monzon in close fight. If anyone scored ko, it would be Monzon. I saw him once, live, will never forget it. He had a right hand that seemed to land so fast, like it was thrown with so little effort, lands so fast, and explodes on guys face. I only saw Hopkins live once too, but in fight he won easy, so it was tough to judge him as much, but I go with Monzon . Pound for pound, only right hand landed so amazingly was Duran, but Monzon did it so smooth it looked like slow motion in a way. I just wish he had fought in United States more.
Why the scorn for Gatti-Ward?? It's one of the best fights I've ever seen and proof positive that you don't need two great fighters to produce a great fight. This fight embodies what makes boxing great imo. As to the thread since one of them is Bernard Hopkins and the other is Carlos Monzon then it would be **** to watch. Both are too proficient in every way to be exposed by the other and both are brilliant at making mid fight adjustments to exploit/remedy a flaw. I reckon they would nullify each other for an extremely close decision either way.
Both boring and brutal. Starts off boring until about round 8 when Monzon's superiority well and truly starts to come through. Then the brutality begins Different level of fighters
