Yes what a joke Marquez was at lightweight beating the linear champion and a man who'd unified 3 belts in Diaz. Yes Casamayor clearly looked as shot as Ali against Katsidis and Campbell was far more impressive against Diaz....what a load of bollox these wins were over two top3 opponents, Diaz had beaten 3 top10 opponents and JMM destroyed both he and Casa, something that had never been done to either, Marquez was clearly established as the no1 LW. If JMM is such a crap LW who do you pick to beat him at the weight? Guzman might but thats questionable

BTW Napoles was also past prime (nearly 34), giving up 4-5 inches in height both men just couldnt compete at those weights

Not to say I rate Floyd's win particularly highly but your a twat :smoke

I'm a Marquez fan, but you can't think he was a great lightweight because he (a) beat a version of Casamayor who was taken to the brink by Michael Katsidis, and (b) went life and death with the merely decent Juan Diaz. You mention Diaz's belts, but I say a better indicator is the fact that he was soundly beaten by an old Nate Campbell and could easily have lost a decision to Paulie Malignaggi.

Because Marquez's power meant he got stoppages against Casa and Diaz does not mean he proved to be a great lightweight against them. He didn't come out and dominate/dazzle them, he didn't shut them out, he didn't bury them early, he got embroiled in gruelling wars of attrition with two fighters that a truly great lightweight would have dispatched with far greater ease.

And the weight jump for Napoles was incomparable with the weight jump for JMM, and you know it.

I'm not saying he was great, this fool is saying he's an average Lightweight, hes beat 2 of the top5 LWs in the world doing a better job on them than Campbell/Castillo/Corrales managed (but yes Casa was past prime).

Pure statistical bull**** right there, which covers all the reality of the situation.

Every lightweight out there right now is average (or less than average) in an historical sense. They wouldn't be fit to wipe the ass of a Ray Mancini, let alone the elite fighters in the history of the division.

I was of course speaking historically. Of course Marquez is not average compared to the guys that were out there at the moment. He was the top lightweight. That's hardly saying much though given the fighters out there.

For some reason I don't believe the Monzon-Napoles fight was shown live on home TV in the U.S.

I read about it in the Ring Magazine....then later saw a taped version.

Monzon never got full credit for an outstanding victory.
