PP's right on this one, actually. If you're going to laugh at somebody like they're a complete clown and make "go back to General" jibes then you should at least have read their post first (not to mention being able to respond to the points in it). Monzon seems to get a free pass on criticism on here.
PowerPuncher is a good poster. we do disagree on many issues and he is capable of healthy debate, well in all of my experiences with him anyway. We also agree on many issues which are unpopular on the classic.
No I just think you're a ****. Benn has nothing by way to win this fight with. At 160 he was just a wild swinging puncher. He plays right into Monzon's hands as Carlos would simply bust him up with the jab, make him miss, then counter with the right. It'd be a methodical beatdown and anyone who thinks otherwise doesnt know boxing.
I dont see the watson comparison, Monzon would demand the respect from benn early with some well-placed right hands to stop that fearless benn advance then after that it would be Monzon picking him off. As too how far this goes it really depends how fast Monzon wants him out of there.
That's the first time I've actually seen you post some analysis (albeit vacuous) rather than the usual sodding fantasy match-ups. Anyway, Benn has a more than respectable jab himself, so he could comfortably stick with Monzon most of the way, although he could abandon it and get slug-happy at times. As for countering with the right, you've clearly pulled that one out of your arse. I don't think I've seen Monzon do that once on film, apart from maybe against Mundine once or twice.
The claims that Monzon would stop Benn easily are laughable. Monzon always played a safety-first game against any remotely competent operator, and he often even abandoned his technical work against his best opponents. Benn would be possibly the best MW Monzon would have faced, and he wasn't just some glass-jawed push-over like Mundine. Monzon would probably go into his shell here and grind out an unflashy and unsatisfying decision, although that sort of performance seems to actually enhance his reputation on here.
And Monzon wouldn't get away with any of his transparent ****ing bullying tactics in the clinch like he did against little Nino. Benn was no soft touch. Any rabbit punches or attempted digs would be met with a retaliatory elbow, no doubt.
But Monzon would tame Benn, he wouldnt let benn swarm all over him. He'd land some well placed shots to hold him off, because Benn isnt some iron-chinned pressure fighter who can keep coming through Monzon's shots. Beating Doug DeWitt makes people think you could take the shots of Monzon and force him into a shell.
Monzon wins. Inside the distance. That's basically what would happen. And, yeah, Nigel Benn is dangerous, against anyone. He might only land one punch and that might qualify in making this fight a "tough" one for Monzon. And based on styles, he's bound to land more. Monzon could get rattled and still make it look easy though. We all know who these guys are, and what they are about. Monzon wins. We all must agree on that.
