that was an alltime brutal ko at the end. The kind that can ruin fighters. And the bout was in Nino's backyard.

absolutely wicked right cross from Monzon. Hagler was probably the only other fighter with a cross as good as Monzon's

From about the sixth round onwards, this was very possibly Monzon's greatest ever performance, the only downside being his repeated fouling. He struggled a bit with Benvenuti's defence and jab early on, but starting in the sixth he began bossing the jabbing exchanges, nailing Benvenuti with right crosses and basically walking him down and systematically taking him apart. Classic example of Monzon's tendency to grow into the fight after a slow start.

He looked a million dollars in rounds six, seven, eleven and twelve (the end) in particular.

Monzon was one of the most underrated of all time.

Monzon has a far better cross than Hagler. I'd go so far as to say Hagler's cross was average and Duran had quite a bit to say in that regard. Hagler's right hook was his best punch and his straight left possibly his least notable.

I think Monzon's right cross was better, I just said that cuz most people are familiar with Hagler's right cross, rather than Monzon's. If you think Hagler's cross is average, watch the overrated War with Hearns, he KOs him with the right cross, and it is bad!

Hagler was a southpaw and tho he switch hit he fought southpaw the vast majority of the time. His true cross was his left.

The bout took place on Nov 7 1970, in Rome, Italy. It was supposed to be another title defense for Nino Benvenuti. This was despite the fact that Carlos Monzon had not lost a fight since October 1964. Monzon was a relatively unknown to the media even though he fought to a draw with Bad Bennie Briscoe in 1967. But in round 12, Nino sure found put who Carlos Monzon was, after that right hand sent him down and out.

Yep Marvin had a great jab and a great hook when fighting southpaw but his left cross from the same stance was pretty mediocre.
He actually had a better right cross from the orthodox stance than left cross from southpaw. His left jab when fighting orthodox was inaccurate and telegraphed in comparison to his southpaw lead. Marvin was obviously a right handed fighter who fought lefty.

    Cheers Mate.
