relative to what he's facing? poppy**** How is it going to be sporadic if Marvin is throwing from the left handed stance? If Monzon puts his glove up to parry it, Marvin will probably feint with it, then hook to the ribs with his best punch-the right hook you come up with questionable scenarios that involve a fighter's mentality letting him down the moment things dont go his way if that's the case, Marvin should have been a complete basket case in the hearns fight once blood started down his face and Steele took him for a quick check but I'm sure you have an explanation for that BTW, Tommy's jab was every bit as educated as Monzon's and probably sharper, more damaging so it's not as though Marvin hadnt seen an educated left jab before. He seen plenty as for Marvin being unable to bully Monzon, explain what's going to prevent Marv from doing what he's done to plenty of tall fighters; cut them down bit by bit until he unleashed the combinations followed by the finisher
So Marvin couldn't, or wouldn't bully the former Lightweight Duran, but he is going to bully one of the possible best 3 Middleweights who ever lived. Yeah right. Tommy's jab at Middleweight was nothing to write home about. The guy had 5 fights at the weight and was stopped twice.
that's not quite what I said. I said that Marvin would drill in a couple shots at a time underneath to the ribs but more like what he did in the rematch with Obel, instead of the Hearns fight Marvin's style if you note is that he customarily with throw one or two at a time like Monzon, Marvin also jabs well but Spoon liked what he read from another poster and ran with it. He said that marvin's going to end up all confused the moment he runs into problems and generally that marvin is a confused fighter If anyone's going to run into problems it would be Monzon because of Marvin's left handed stance but Spoon does not understand how that could be a factor marvin would be the agressor, but with his 75 inch reach, shouldnt be at a disadvantage trying to box
That's right, Marvin would get confused,...and Monzon wouldn't...the Argentine had a cooler head than Marvin, and would capitalize on the confusion. You think Marvin was flummoxed against Duran?? Marvin would be switching between his lefty and righty stances from round to round out of frustration. Monzon would have forced Hagler to respect him, and that too would contribute to confusion and indecisiveness. Unlike vs SRL, he wouldn't be fighting a wilting fighter in those later rounds, as Monzon owned those championship rounds of 13 through 15. One thing you need to understand is that your comparing Monzon to Hearns is no good. Carlos may not have been as spectacular as Hearns, but he was a lot more effective...more effective at fighting tall, more effective with the jab, the one-two, knowing when to lay back and when to start pouring it on again (part of superior ring generalship), and most of all, Monzon was harder than Hearns, i.e, had a better chin, and was a stronger, more established middleweight. Now, I've laid out the case for Monzon pretty well, and that's all I have to say about it, I'm done with this thread...you can go on and argue all you want from now on, and you'll be arguing with yourself.
I see. In other words, you're running away If marvin were to the be the fighter who choked like you hoped he would, it would have happened in the Minter fight where the crowd hostility was much intimidating than Monzon's left jab I've never seen a left jab throw him If that were the case, Tommy would have dealt Marvin his next loss in light of the Duran fight That's why your argument doesnt work and I hate to tell you this but Carlos wouldnt be able to lay back with Marvin because if he tried, marvin would only increase the pressure and let's face it, only Marvin could fight at HOF levels we saw in the hearns fight all you have is "marvin would get confused" and "Tommy wasn't the inteliligent fighter Monzon was" in reality, the fighter who's going to get confused is Monzon due to facing a left handed fighter with a steel chin and applies relentless pressure and one who can box at least as well as Monzon himself and add to his woes is the fact that Marvin does do well against taller opponents how many left handers did Monzon face? I'm talking world class left handers moreover, how is Monzon going to land the one-two with Marvin moving the opposite direction? in order for you to present a strong case, you must take into account these factors, and the fact is, you have never thought of them which is why you resort to the usual mindless drivel "Monzon would have forced Hagler to respect him, and that too would contribute to confusion and indecisiveness" atsch :nut you can see why my evidence is much better thought out and compelling than yours
Red, with all due respect I think you need to go watch a lot more of Monzon before you dig yourself further into the hole you are digging. Hagler was doubtlessly a true ATG fighter, but he could only ever dream of controlling the pace of a fight, and the distance between the fighters the way Monzon could.
