Hagler by decision or late round tko. Good fight, back and forth but hagler eventually wears down monzon, swelling him up and perhaps even cutting him. Monzons slow feet would be a big handicap against a rampaging power puncher like hagler.

People picking Hagler please share your views on how Hagler would get past Monzon's jab and win rounds against it. Monzon as a fighter was one of the few who rarely lost a round. This was because of his jab activity coupled with his defense. Essentially, he could stick you with the jab all through the round and avoid the in-coming fire. Very hard to take a round from a fighter like this. Very hard to look more effective against a fighter like this as the style (jab activity + defense) beats you on workrate while also limiting your workrate and punching all together. This was because Monzon did not just throw the jab just to throw the jab but also used it as a way to stop his opponent from ever being set to punch or begin his offense. He could negate and blunt an opponent with his jab to freeze him and keep him from setting up.

Monzon's whole style was to completely maximize himself while completely minimizing his opponent. I don't think you people understand this yet.

But I am interested in hearing how Hagler would negate this strategy.

My guess is Hagler would switch to southpaw and try blocking Monzons Jab with his right hand and try and get under Monzon to work the body.This a 50/50 fight if ever I saw one.
