Dundee said pre & post fight he expected Napoles to win the Monzon fight.
Then Monzon did what he did to Jose, and Dundee more than willingly admitted
Monzon's greatness.

No one yet has mentioned Monzon's girl friend with a pistol as an opponent....LOL.

Look at the rematch with BB...he did very well with the pressure, didn't he? Don't know what his weakness was...see, nobody beat him...anyone who wants to nitpick Monzon has to point to a sub par winning performance, lol. You could say the second Griffith fight was sub par, but hell, that fight was his first after when he was shot by his wife..he had a bullet lodged in his shoulder (not his leg like some erroneous reports told of)...the rematch with Bouttier was somewhat sub par, but he ended up handling the Frenchman like a rag doll at the end.
There's been a determined push to downgrade Monzon by ignorant posters with agendas, but truth is, Monzon was sort of a weird phenomena of some kind. He won all his damned fights...plain and simple, period....and against all the challengers who were available at the time..what more can you expect of a fighter. He may not have had all the flashy gifts that other greats had, but he had something that they didn't have...a cold blooded, almost criminal psychopath's mental make up and a painfully underrated genius ring IQ that allowed him to figure out how to survive defensively, and how to figure out how to beat the opponent at hand. I don't know, Harry Greb may have been able to beat him, but Greb's an "X" factor, and I'll be damned if I can figure out anyone else who could.
After he destroyed Napoles,..well, he was beginning to destroy Napoles..one more round would have done it...Angelo Dundee said "Monzon is a super champion"...see, it wasn't a thumb in the eye that did it, just watch the damned fight...if it was from a thumb, Dundee and all the other "experts"of the time would have shouted "foul" from the roof tops.

It was his first wife (a gorgeous woman indeed with whom he had two children) and she shot him twice! The shoulder one stayed there forever. Monzon could really punch then the shoulder and hands problems. He was the pinpoint most accurate combo puncherI ever saw.

yeah really great post, I see all that in Monzon too. He had no glaring weakness

Thanks compadre for the "clarification". I knew it involved some hot "Argentine woman" just couldn't remember the "marital status".

Monzon smoked 2 packs of cigs a day, get he had no breathing difficulties, no stamina issues at all,...could go 15 rounds like a virtuoso. He was a physical phenom that no one at the time and all the boxing morons today couldn't and can't figure out.
