15 rds Decided to post this based on how many people were using Bernard as as example to beat King Carlos. Personally I dont see it. I actually feel Hop is overrated at this point perhaps due to his longevity? I dont know. Hes smart and crafty but I feel overrated at this point. I feel hes vulnerable to getting stopped anytime after the 11th or 12th.
Hopkins wins 8-4 on 2 cards and 7-5 on the other. UD for Hopkins! Can’t envision 12 round fighters over 15 no matter how hard I try. Those 3 rounds are tricky and some guys were built for them while others were not. I believe Hopkins could translate to that era but what does he change to do so? I don’t know
Hopkins was harder to hit, Monzon was open to the counter jab while he himself was jabbing, B-hop was the smarter fighter and would neutralise Monzon`s jab I feel.
I think Hopkins is a difficult stylistic hurdle for any middleweight in history, and in this match-up, I tend to think Hopkins had the all around skills and smarts that he could find various ways to disrupt Monzon from finding his rhythm. But it wouldn't be easy, and I imagine this one being extremely close on the scorecards one way or another.
Hopkins by decision. I think the early rounds would be slow with Monzon holding a slight edge. Then BHOP would make adjustments. In his prime at '60 Hopkins had power. He was taller than Carlos. That is a factor. He wouldnt let Carlos get comfortable on the outside. I believe Hopkins would take him to the Woodshed in the last 3rd of the fight.
I pick Monzon in a slow paced but tactical battle, 15 Rd MD. Monzon is probably the coolest, calmest technician ever in boxing. I would consider him a superior tactical observer than B Hop, even with his 'ungainly' style.
I agree. Monzon wouldn't enjoy his usual height and reach advantages and noway would he be able to bully Hopkins at any stage of the fight. I think both would make adjustments at stages but i think Hopkins would have the slightly more consistent answers. As Rummy said Hopkins would find ways to offset Monzon's rhythm. I also agree Hopkins was a very solid hitter at his 160 peak. It would be a great fight fought at a ridiculous level.
Monzon, i think only just though, he would give as bad he got from hopkins in terms of pulling out all the nasty tricks. Its possible that my appraisal is being misled by Bhops weaker H2H ability that I witnessed more of in his very late 30s to 40s.
Good fight, over 15 I think monzon beats Hopkins, i think he Technically better and he’s longer and taller,
Monzon is 1 and 1/2 inches shorter, not sure how he is taller. Not that it matters I don’t think either guy won many fights based on merely being taller.
I like Monzon here. Close fight, no stoppage here for me, figures it out and pulls away in the championship rounds
