Size strength, and reach, plus a killer right hand. I have to go with King Carlos Monzon by TKO 13, Jake La Motta was no slouch, just as mean. He would give Monzon a good fight.
I don`t think Monzon could stop Lamotta because of his chin and ability to slip shots from Robinson who was far quicker and better at setting up his shots than Monzon, Ray also wore down Jake with body shots, Monzon didn`t have a great body attack, I see it being a jabbing contest, Monzon was very suseptable to counter jabs and Jake landed a lot of jabs on Robi, I feel Jake would be busier and win a narrow points win, in an actin packed bout.
Monzon was the best nullifier in boxing history. Made him pretty tepid to watch a lot of the time, but he got the job done. He'd get it done here too.
I think this could go like the Robinson-LaMotta series. I think LaMotta could out-hustle Monzon in a first bout, Monzon could win a second bruising fight very closely, and then stop or UD LaMotta in a third bout. LaMotta would be tougher than anyone Monzon ever fought, but Monzon would likely brutalize LaMotta worse than Robinson was able to do, since he was stronger (imo). But if it boils down to one fight, I have Monzon by late TKO. Very competitive fight.
A peak LaMotta could possibly pull off an upset .. he could take Carlos' power and match or surpass him on strength .. he could possibly outwork him .. style wise its an interesting fight .. one that goes the distance .. I truly like Monzon and know he was a tough as nails bad ass but think ever so slightly he's become over rated .. his career to me seems like one more based on longevity than outstanding achievements over exceptional opponents .. to me that means he may be a dangerous to all top six to eight than top one or two all time but still a tremendous fighter ..
Carlos had not lost a fight since Oct 9 1964, spanning 82 fights, he avenged his three losses, 8 of the 9 men he had draws with. His record at the time of his retirement was 89-3-9, 61 KO's. Champion from Nov 7 1970- August 29 1977. 14 Title Defenses.
He was one of my favorites, I followed his career since he knocked out Nino Benvenuti on Nov 7 1970. Saw and greeted him in person.
Cool. The rap Monzon gets for being boring is totally unnecessary. He wasn't boring, he was dominant. He was as bad as it gets; one of my favorites ever, he was so beautiful to watch. One of the greatest of all time without a doubt.
Lomota would probably find it hard to get past monzons jab but if he got inside he could do serious damage . I'd say monzon would get a close ud with lomota putting up a real fight maby even getting monzon in to trouble a few times
