I still say, and go against the grain...Monzon takes him out to sea, and although behind in points, out sped, out razzle-dazzled, will break Jones down, much like another guy, Chavez Sr. eventually ground down Taylor. Monzon stops Jones in 14...tko. His right hand will find that glass crystal chin. Monzon was no postman, after all. This is all very subjective, as all opinions are, and I'm not changing any of your minds, and most certainly, none of you will change mine. I have always maintained this, probably before some of you were born...whilst some of you were being burped by your mothers....and the book is closed on the subject for me....and as for red rooster, the comic book is burned.
I see the same ending. Jones for all his gifts truly lacked fundamentals. That will haunt him late against Monzon
Good Post. It's a plausible view on how the fight could go. Speed can be hell to deal with, for sure, but it's not everything and it can be managed. Roy Jones Jr excelled because he had it and made it work for him very effectively. His convincing feints unsettled many of his opponents; causing them to unconsciously give tells in their reflex reactions for Roy to work with. He was able to commit, execute and get back out, because he'd already laid the path for his assault and had the speed to deliver it, for next to no collateral damage in return. Against most, he made it look easy. I think this would work on Monzon for a while, but I don't think Monzon would continue to be partner in that particular dance for too long. Monzon had a comprehensive armory, which he was able to deploy in multiple scenarios. And, as you allude to, Monzon didn't exactly give much away, even if asked. Great on the counter and able to disrupt his opponents offense, I think Monzon could make things more difficult than usual for RJJ, who might start to find things getting tough in the last third. Monzon could do well, during this stage of the bout.
