Hard to speculate how Roy goes over 15...especially against such a well seasoned 15 round fighter like Carlos. Over 12..Roy is one of the few guys Id give a huge chance of beating Monzon. Id maybe even go as far to say he would.
Monzon loses to Hopkins, Hill and Ruiz. I don't think Monzon has beatn someone who would beat Roy. I don't favor anyone in Roy's prime over him at 160 - 175.
Monzon would likely stop Hill...probably even if he came in as a middleweight and Virgil was still at 175. Hopkins himself said he would lose to Monzon.
I think Monzon's aggressive jabbing and technical ability give him the edge here. I think he would do similar to what he did to Benvenuti, technically shut down his speed and then control him to either a clear decision or perhaps late stoppage. I also don't think Roy reached his peak yet at 160, except perhaps just before he left (vs. Thomas Tate).
Over 12 you'd have to go with Jones's speed to annoy the hell out of the superb Monzon. I don't even think Monzon would take more than a few rounds. Over 15 Roy is an unknown commodity - Monzon would have a slim chance of a late KO. But more likely Jones via UD again. Would have been a fascinating encounter whatever the result...
Monzon is one of the few boxers at 160 that I would not pick Jones to beat outright. This dose not mean that I am picking Monzon to win outright either. The question rather 12 or 15 rounds is Jones's speed and power better than Monzon's skill and power or is it the other way around?
it's an intriguing matchup, Jones hadn't peaked at 160 and was still young, his speed certainly presents problems. I haven't seen enough of Monzon honestly, but he is most often picked here here as the best MW ever. So based on what i've seen and read i would tend toward Monzon. Roy's speed though would be something at MW Monzon I don't believe had experienced, conversely Roy at Middleweight or above never fought anyone as good as Monzon.
Monzon without a single doubt. I'd bet the mortgage on it. At 168, oddly enough, I would give Jones a better chance, though still side with Monzon.
Jones would have had to face G-man to meet a man made of steel such as Monzon. And even then, Monzon is the hardest middleweight who ever lived.
