Obviously, you have no appreciation for sarcasm. I would like one person to say that Hagler was on peak form that night. His sparring partners were kicking his ass. Petronelli admitted he was no longer at top form... oh, and he won the fight on all but the scorecards. Valdez was a first class puncher who sat down on his punches with devastating effects. He wasn't made to be a ballerina. Again, I would like anyone to argue that he was not a top 10 all time puncher for the division.
Marvin made one mistake,,,,,,,,,,he fought in Las Vegas. And fighting the First 2 rounds in a right-handed stance,,,,,,,,,,,,GEEZ
What are the none Redrooster sources for this? And even if they were Ali's sparring partners were kicking his ass before nearly every fight in the 70s, its called sparring The amount of excuses for Leonard winning this and taking away credit is quite ridiculous BTW Valdez was good, but his footwork limited him and he was no Hagler, 87 Hagler beats Valdez comprehensively
Saying Hagler beats him is downgrading him? Yes how dare anyone say a bum like Hagler would win against Valdez atsch
Listen, I'm not calling hagler a bum, and no one else is either...but you obviously think Valdez was a bum.
Highlight where I said that, I commented on his lack of mobility being the reason he wasn't quite in Hagler's class, overall he just isn't quite as skilled as Hagler, hardly a derogatory comment as few MWs were
Once Monzon builds a rhythm he snatches a draw. The early-to-mid-rounds would be a serious hassle for him. Bad stylistic matchup IMO, but that's a + for Suagr Ray rather than a slight on Monzon.
Too bad with Leonard's injury. It would really be interesting to see him stay active and gradually make his way into the MW division. A fight between him and Hagler in 1985...
Can't see Leonard prevailing over 15.He doesn't have the stamina or sharpness for it anymore and was always a... plant feet, then disengage and move a bit, then plant again...kind of boxer-puncher, not really someone who was too comfortable punching on the move or fighting on the backfoot while in slow retreat, which is ideally what he would be doing to steadily outbox Monzon. He's not going to be able to stand and centre-ring and be the boxer-puncher dictating exchanges, which is what Leonard does at his best. 10-5'ish fight to Carlos with the last rounds getting quite one-sided,or quite possibly producing a stoppage.
Monzon would either stop Leonard late, or decision him.As great as Ray was, he has no business in the ring with a prime Monzon.
Monzon: 5' 11-1/2", reach 76" Leonard: 5' 10", reach 74" Napoles much smaller: 5' 7-1/2", reach 72" Hearns for the record: 6'-1", reach 78". Leonard would definitely be able to hit Monzon....and it is doubtful whether Monzon is a better boxer than Hearns.
