We all know how King Carlos dominated the middleweights in the early to latter 1970's but lets be honest his opposition wasn't as awesome as maybe it could have been. Would history have been different if he'd have laced them up against any of Willie Monroe, Boogaloo Watts and Eugene Hart? Monroe and Watts were at least tall guys like Carlos and were skilled enough to post wins over a green but still tough Marvin Hagler ( apparently Monroe trounced Hagler) and would have posted difficulties for Monzon that Tom Bogs, Gratien Tonna and old Emile Griffith didn't I'd have thought. Is an upset a possiblity or were these guys simply not in Monzons class (baring in mind I haven't seen much footage of any of these Philly legends at their peak and am largely going on heresay and reputation) Your thoughts:think
As much as I love my Philly guys, not sure if I see any of them beating Carlos. Maybe my man Bennie if he could have gotten Carlos to fight here (Russell Peltz tried, but Carlos preferred to fight Bennie at home) but I kind of doubt it. Maybe Cyclone lands a lucky left hook to take him out.........Nah, don't think so. Don't think The Worm or Boogaloo had enough chin to threaten Carlos. Oh well
Ditto for me....Cyclone and briscoe would be the best shots, and briscoe had 2 chances at carlos and was able to be competitive but couldn't quite pull it out....Monroe is my favorite and although he beat hagler, stylistically Monzon would not be right for him, although I would have cheered my but off...I doubt Boogaloo would last the distance....I have only seen a faded version of Hayward, so I won't try and say how he would fare???
