Walker puts up the fight of his life and gives monzon one of his toughest. But Carlos gets the win. But walker a excellent fighter and he's up against the best here, so no shame in losing.
Yes i find the majority consensus for Monzon strange to say the least. Like many on here have come to appreciate Monzon tremendously but there definitely seems to be a lack of sobriety and objectivity when some folks declare him King of the Hill in a H2H sense. In general Monzon's competition was decent but when compared to the opposition faced many of the top 25 contenders worthy of discussion for top 10 MW ATG inclusion Monzon's it weak to say the least. Greb, Gibbons, Steele, Burley, Holman, Robinson, Yarosz, Overlin, Apostoli, O'Dowd, Lamotta, etc faced a laundry list of killers by comparison. Monzon fought in a weak era which can't be helped but avoided his most formidable threat in Valdes for 3 years and was pushed to the brink but a post accident, post prime version of him. Tough times with Griffith and Briscoe he was hardly a dominant force against what little competition was available. Now Walker could deal with much larger ATG elite boxers like Loughren and Rosenbloom, LHW strength and power of guys like Berlenbach and Lomski, Size and power of HW's like Sharkey and Schmeling, and keep up with the workrate, stamina, and footwork of the Immortal God of War Harry Greb but Monzon is going to present something that Mickey hasn't been confronted with before and can't deal with? Really? I would be favoring Walker to have his hand raised at the end of this one perhaps even by stoppage. Mickey Walker is in very exclusive territory among a select few men worthy of being considered the most formidable pugilists to have ever breathed. I find it kind of sad at the general lack of recognition for him now-a-days.
Two all time greats, Carlos Monzon with a decisive height and reach advantage wins this one on points, Walker would be no easy foe for Carlos. Both fighters could hit very hard, Monzon, a combination puncher, Mickey, a tough, wild swinging opponent. Good fight.
NO FENCE SITTING! One has to be horrible and one has to be unbeatable! That's the way we roll around here.
Agree..Monzon keeps him on the outside and picks him coming in. Not sure of a stoppage though. Walker is one tough customer
They're both pre-2000, so they both stink. I actually think Walker could win, for what it's worth. But I'd pick Monzon decision as most likely.
