Nonsense KuRuPT. Monzon would have played the 15 round distance like a Stradivarius...and when Roy was hopelessly at sea...about the 13th or 14th....that glass mandible would have had all it could take. Monzon ko or tko 14....and somehow you know it. Roy would have just wished that Monzon was one of those clueless part time postmen or cripples that he feasted on.

Roy would’ve made a mockery of Monzon, and most ATG MWs to be honest.

Agree. Roy beats more ATG MW than he losses to.

Obviously you've forgotten to take your meds today. No offense Flea, you're a informed poster.

Russell are you even still around?

and yes Monzon is a bit overrated meaning he's great in his era but put him in with a Hagler, Robinson or Jones and he's a loser every time

    This.

I find it a hard fight to gauge tbh. Obviously Monzon was an insanely great fighter and his competition was solid imo but he never faced anyone with the combined speed, power, movement, accuracy, feinting skill and innate ring generalship of Jones.

I totally agree. I would favor Jones over Monzon and quite likely over Hagler too.

No MW to ever live makes a mockery of a prime Monzon.

I disagree. Only opinions at the end of the day.

Roy faster of hand and foot, every punch in the book, good power in both hands, excellent defensively.

Monzon took a few rounds to warm up and figure out guys who were comparatively basic. Would take him even more to try and figure out Jones, which basically no one did until he was a shot fighter.

Hilarious that some think Jones was just waiting around for someone good enough to knock him out.

Jones had one of the steepest falls from grace I can recall. Had he retired after Ruiz I think he’d be “unbeatable” in mythical matches (which would be wrong) but I do tend to think he’s just a nasty blend of size, speed, movement, height and a million of other things for most fighter under 175. Monzon would be a decoded underdog even though I rate him higher all-time. Same for Hagler (who I think beats Monzon).

Jones wasn't really a great middleweight.
Monzon fought his entire career at 160.
