Although he is always listed at 5'11, in videos and when fighting guys like benvenuti who is also like 5'10, he always seems a lot taller than that. Is it he because he fought really straight up or do you guys have any source to say otherwise?

Monzon's official height is 181 cmts in the metric system used in Argentina. That would be a whisker over 5'11

    Carlos was about 5’11 1/2”.

However, being so trim and having fought a number of marquee names who were notably shorter than him, he probably seemed taller than he actually was.

To name two, Valdez and Briscoe were only about 5’8”. Per Ray Robinson’s listed height of 5’11” - Ray would’ve been barely shorter than Monzon.

And you’re correct, his very upright style of fighting would’ve also made him seem taller.

Some older boxing magazines went as as far listing Monzon at 6’2”!

Do you know that David Benavidez is only 6'0 tall? He lied and claimed he was 6'2 and we all believed he was because everybody he was fighting was probably also lying about their height. In the modern day era where everybody lies about their height Carlos Monzon would be 6'1 and a half. So put his height in perspective that way.

Commissions have never given a rat's a$$ about fighters' heights - the weights are the only numbers that matter. That's why it's not uncommon to see fighters' listed heights vary from one fight to the next (i.e.: Canelo's height has fluctuated between 5'7", 5'7.5", & 5'8" throughout his career). When my father was a boxer decades ago, Commissions would literally just ASK him for his height & record whatever he said.

He fought tall. To maximize his height and reach
advantages, and most of his opponents were under
5'9" (At least the best ones were) and fought
from a typical boxers crouch .
So it appears he towers over them, especially
    during the actual fighting.

I got a picture of him with my Auntie Mulva and my Uncle Biggus. He was taller than Mulva by five inches and shorter than Biggus by one inch.

Tyson's height also changed within the years, the only guess is that it's a way to **** with your opponent's mind
