No. Hagler drew with Vito.....then came back and won the title later against Minter. Hagler became a better fighter the second chance he got at the title. Monzon would have won by split decision if it had been Monzon's last fight.
I do not see Hagler beating a Monzon in 77/78. For the Marvelous One to have a great chance, he needs to get the time machine into 1979.
I think at this stage Tricky Monzon would have been a step too far for Marv , - actually I am not even sure That this young Marv would have beaten the Valdez that Carlos overcame ? ( after the 2 monzon fights and 3 Briscoe fights its little wonder that Roddy was a shell - but the Monzon version of Valdez was nobodies easy meat !)
ypu sure i thought hagler was more of a boxer than a slugger through out his career i would never call him a slugger until maybe his last few fights he was a boxer puncher on his way up and stayed like tha until maybe the mugabi fight
Hagler was a boxer at that point of his career. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YqUMZxZTEYE http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=F3pDv3bc8ZU http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QTir9JHXTrg
i'm still convinced hagler eased up on antuofermo in their first fight. monzon v hagler 1978 is too close to call but overall im going with hagler. calling him a slugger is an insult !!
