Maybe most impressive is just how complete Patterson is.

1 - On the outside he has an excellent jab and can close the distance very quickly with a variety of punches.

2 - Inside he is very strong (stronger than Moore, who had great fucntional strength), has great variety (body, head, left, right, utilises angles).

    3 - Great hand speed.

    4 - Good power,

5 - Great weaving, bobing defence.

    6 - Great balance

    7 - Great combination puncher

8 - Good general - like Marciano points out, he refuses to let Moore bait him. If Moore can't trap him in these few rounds, he might be close to untrappable. For his style, that makes him, arguably, a great general - getting pulled onto something by mis-judgement makes him easy to pick, Patterson's generalship renders him a moving target that has to be timed.

There are very few fighters who cover as many bases so thoroughly. There is the chin problem, of course, but he has exellent recuperation and a great, great mentality for taking punches.

as much as i agree that he would be a big light-heavy had he stayed there, the thoughts are that he still moved up too soon. a guy who was wieghing in at 180 odd on occasion is a clear sign that he could of got rid of 5 pounds. also he he looked massive in the johansson III fight he was huge physically. but this was the late 60's and he clearly put on a bit of muscle.

tommy hearns went up to 174 then back down to 160 and he didnt look flabby or fat, just becuase peeps go up in wieght doesnt signify they are having trouble with the weight.

of course he would of gone up to heavy later in his career...maybe not win a title becuase he wouldnt have the youth but he would of been a solid contender.

at 174 he woudl of been in his element

Looking at this fight I have to re-iterate, what chance does Moore have against Roy Jones Jr? Slim and none and slims left the building

You're using Patterson as a foil for Jones now? Jones got sparked by middling LHW punchers, Patterson got sparked by ATG punching HW's and that is all.

At least as much as Tarver and Glen Johnson have.
