From Brit Boxing . Net... http://www.britishboxing.net/news_3865-Moore-to-fight-for-vacant-European-title.html Jamie Moore will now fight for the vacant European light-middleweight title after Zaurbek Baysangurov dramatically gave up the title. Purse bids for their showdown were due to be opened in Rome this morning, but just minutes before the Russian ducked out of fighting Jamie. Salford's Moore will now face the next available contender and his team expect that to be Italy's former IBF welterweight and European light-middleweight champion Michele Piccirillo. Promoter Frank Maloney said: "We were confident of winning the purse bids, but Baysangurov was not confident of coming to England. "Jamie was more than willing to go to Germany or Russia. That shows his fighting heart. "We are now waiting for the EBU to name the next contender in rankings and we will enter a short period of private negotiations before the fight goes to purse offers. "I'm confident that Jamie will get his chance in England, hopefully before the end of November." Excellent news! he's been messed around far too much - i just hope he gets to fight someone good.
anyone know how Piccirillo has looked recently? i believe he was getting outclassed by forrest before getting stopped 10 months ago, but beat michael jones earlier in the year.
True. This fight certainly isn't a gimme. Maloney has to win the purse for starters. I reckon Moore will walk through a wall for this one. It'll be good to see the fella back in the ring and involved in a meaningful fight.
At last the Baysangurov v Moore on/off saga has reached some conclusion. Do hope Moore is successful in capturing this Title - has been operating at domestic level for too long now. Be interesting to see who the EBU actually name as an opponent.
Not really. Moore`s already found his level. He`s a great domestic talent but he`ll never be anything more than a fringe contender at best. Glad he`s going for the EBU though that may get him a world title crack.
Yep. I agree but I am glad he is getting the chance of fighting for the Euro belt and if he comes through he may get a world title shot. His talent is definetly upper domestic class and not in the realms of world champion but he has the guts to spring a surprise if given the opportunity.
To be honest I think Baysangurov vacating is a better outcome. Being stripped when claiming injury can result in controversy - the McIntyre situation springs to mind.
I might not have a Eubank sort of chin pal but it's far from dodgy. And yes I can whack so be careful!! Just kiddin'.:good
If he'll struggle at EU level then he's ****ed when he gets to European............ The point of the above is I hate when people reference the European title, or level as EU, because that is a seperate belt and does exist. EBU-EU belt, only EU countries. EBU belt, all European countries. Anyone Piccirillo is getting on a bit and I would of given Moore every chance of beating the man that faced Jones or Forrest. I'm guessing with the extra bit of time on him he'll be slightly worse again and Moore could stop him. A world title will probably be too much for him though.
