Moore/Walcott/Charles v. Joshua/Ortiz/Wilder

For the folks who currently watch and follow heavyweight boxing: how do these 1950s greats fare against some of the most formidable 2016 heavyweights?

Archie Moore v. Anthony Joshua
Joe Walcott v. Luis Ortiz
Ezzard Charles v. Deontay Wilder

 

i got ortiz and charles but moore joshua is closer. In a few more fights joshua might be an easy pick but atm i'm leaning slightly towards moore.

 

I think Wilder at his best would be a pretty dangerous and difficult matchup for Charles.

 

Moore would beat Joshua who has beaten absolutely nobody and has bad stamina.
Walcott would embarrass Ortiz to **** who also has terrible stamina.
Charles would knock Wilder to hell and back.

 

Couldn't have predicted any of those calls!

 

Interesting matchups

I see Moore pulling an upset over Joshua, by taking him into late rounds.
Walcott over Ortiz. Interestingly, these look alike.
Wilder over Charles. I think Wilders style is all wrong for Ezzard.

All these would be close, epic matches.

I no longer have Moore over Joshua.
I still have Walcott over Ortiz, and Wilder over Charles.

Moore, Walcott and Charles were so far superior to any of the three modern hwts that unless they are caught with a ko blow they win going away.

 

New GUARD WALKS THROUGH THE OLD GUARD QUITE EASILY....charles and Wilder is the most competitive match, Ortiz wins either k.o or decision ..and Joshua completley flattens Moore in what would be a mismatch for the ages.

 

Walcott beats Ortiz for my money, but Ortiz is likely already past his best.

We don't really know how good Wilder or Joshua are atm so this opinion is likely to change depending on how the careers pan out.

Joshua is not a far 240 pounds, he's ripped. Moore carried to 200 pounds fairly well but were talking about a man who is a muscular 40 pound advantage and someone who has destroyed 4 top ten opponents. It's possible that Joshua is lead footed compared to Moore and would look like a slow plodder who can be easily outboxed, but I think it's more likely that Joshua will walk right through Moore and blast him out.

Wilder vs Charles is an easier call to make, Wilder showed against Stiverne that he can box comfortably on the back foot behind his agility. Due to his comparative low weight he has an extra agility that some of the current HW fighters don't have. He could use his physical advantages to out jab Charles and if Charles tried getting inside he'd have the windmill like attack to deal with and there's no way he could sustain that pressure.

I'd say new guard beats the old guard 2-1.

I think the smaller elite HW of yesteryear can easily gain a ranking today, but beating the elite big men is a bigger task and in some way an insurmountable one. It's very much case by case.

 

You can't seriously pick Moore over Joshua and keep a straight face. I don't buy it.
