Morales, Marquez, or Barrera?

I disagree. Barrera was obviously significantly further past his best than Marquez, and I still think that fight was grossly misinterpreted by most people at the time, it could very easily have been scored for MAB. Unlike you mate, I do not think the fight would be close if they fought prime-for-prime. Barrera would outjab him, outland him, and drop him en route to an 8-4 type decision IMO. In some ways a similar fighter, but just a little better all round.

I had Morales edging the rematch with Barrera with 1-2 points. He should have won that.

But the first one... Just rewatched it and scored it round by round. 10-9, 10-9, 10-9, 9-10, 10-9, 9-10, 10-9, 10-9, 10-9, 9-10, 10-9, 10-9: 117-111 to Barrera. This is minus the ruled KD, since it wasn't a KD.

If we give Morales every single benefit of a doubt he can be given rds 5 and 9 + 1 pts deduction on MAB for persistent low blows, and that would give him a draw. But that's as far as I can go.

Overall, I think Barrera had the better of their trilogy.

I usually rank Marquez higher than both , and because of Junior Jones , I tend to rank Morales higher than Barera , but :
Barera was the only 1 to face Hamed , whom Marquez avoided like Povetkin avoids Wlad.
Seems to me like they r close after all.
And I am not certain about how to rank them.

That's a ****ing ludicrous, laughable, lamentable scorecard for that fight. :nut

 

117-111 to Barrera is a diabolical scorecard. A lot of the rounds in the first fight could go either way depending how you view them. Morales seemed to do more in the middle rounds but Barrera caught Morales often on the ropes in the last 20 seconds in a lot of the rounds and left a serious impression on the rounds. I have it Barrera by 2 with the Kd but could also accept Morales by 1 or 2. It's not the so called robbery people mmake out in my opinion.

 

Most will obviously see it so, but there's just no way I could score that fight for Morales. Giving him rds 5 and 9 could be done, and would make the fight close, but I felt that to be a bit charitable. I wanted to have a closer score, but just couldn't see it.

 

I remember Steward saying he told Hamed to stay away from JMM at all costs. JMM was the mandatory, and he never got the fight. They took the Barrera fight with him being a 2-1 underdog, if I remember right.

 

I had it pretty similar to you, for me MAB's punches were far far more effective in this fight, he was the ring general, Morales was constantly forced back to the ropes, came back to land punches but less effective ones. I thought Morales was close to going in the first MAB fight too

Barrera beat Morales in the first fight....Bad decision.

 

Yeah, Barrera not only scored the cleaner punches in most rounds, he got Morales to fight his fight throughout the fight. "Ring generalship" was his in every round and "effective aggression" in almost all of them, and he also scored the better, heavier, more telling blows (to body and head) during the fight. I agree Morales has cause to feel badly done by in the rematch, but the first one was clearly Barrera's.
