clearly, you do not comprehend that a running fighter and younger opponent in raheem is a stylistic nightmare for morales.

morales thrives on battles, against fighters who will stand toe to toe, pac and mab. he does not do well against runners. atsch

the second coming of morales, that is on my mind. not his coming back from retirement but when someone like him will rise from the younger fighters.

morales pbf at 123 prime for prime would have been a great scrap.

 

Bad comparison. Barrera went on to beat Ayala, Morales, Juarez, and be very competitive with Marquez after his loss to Manny Pacquiao. In stark contrast, Erik Morales lost to Raheem, and followed that up with two losses to Manny Pacquiao and David Diaz, a fighter he would have steamrolled in his prime.

Are we disputing how a good version of Morales does against any version of Raheem? I acknowledge that it's a bad match-up, but we also have to consider that Erik Morales was A+ and Raheem was C/B- at best. I think the loss was brought on because Morales was a shadow of his former self, and everything that proceeded it backs up that claim.

 

Pretty Boy Floyd was at his best as a 130lbs and far to big for Super Bantamweight. That said, Floyd is not only a better fighter than Erik but also a terrible style match-up. I think Morales gets beaten up at 130lbs, but his heart would see him last the full 12. Not many fighters in history beat Erik at Super Bantamweight, though.

Erik was a special fighter, don't expect another one to come around any time soon.

 

you are under rating raheem here. raheem i remember was an olympian just like david diaz. correct me if i am wrong. remember that shadow of morales sent diaz down in the first round and many thought including i that he won.

precisely. he did his best work at 122 and 126. he should have went up to 130 earlier where pbf also did a lot of good work.

So we are in complete agreement. Morales did not only lose to Manny Pacquiao at the twilight of his career, he beaten him during the same period also. This is no slight on Manny Pacquiao, he has since proven that not only would he be a match for any version of Erik Morales, but he'd probably be favorite also. There doesn't always have to be a hidden agenda with these kind of discussions. People get a little precious with their fighters, I understand that.

Zahir Raheem is a good fighter, but Erik Morales was simply on a whole other level. Prime for prime, Raheem gets blasted out, and relatively easily. I don't expect to many disagreements here, it was the first sign that Erik would soon have to hang up his gloves. He showed signs of slipping the Barrera fight in 2004. I'm a Marco fan, typically I should be claiming Morales was at his very best, but I'm man enough to admit that he wasn't.

 

I think when people talk about the Marco Antonio Barrera and Manny Pacquiao altercation in 2003, some details get lost in translation. There is no disputing that the fight was as one-sided as they come, and Marco was taking tremendous punishment. But people are quit to disregard Marco as being safety first, whereas they hail Morales the only 'real Mexican warrior". Let's not forget, Marco never quit in the Pacquiao fight, and he was not knocked out. His corner stopped the fight, and rightly so. I thought that was a great showing of heart, personally.

I only make note of this because I realize that everyone respects Morales, but they shouldn't have to discredit Barrera in the process. They are all truely great fighters, and history will record that all of them have displayed great heart.

 

morales has such an indomitable spirit and a warriors heart. he does not resort to cheating like your idol mab who cheap shot pac in the 11th round of the 2nd fight during a clinch.

Marco Antonio Barrera was 34-0 before Manny Pacquiao even made his professional debut. Show some respect. :good

you got to admit that mab threw a cheap shot in the 11th of the second fight. watch it while they were still in a clinch and theref was separating them. out of no where. boom.

 

Barrera liked to throw shots in the clinch, and it wasn't just against Manny Pacquiao, he did it against Peden, Morales, and about every other opponent you could think of. It's not out of the realms of possibility that he was a little late to react to the referee's intervention, but either way, it's blown out of proportion. That cheap shot in the 11th round does not define Marco's career.

Are we also in agreement that Manny deserves an oscar for his performance in the 11th?

its not just it was a cheap shot, pac clearly was not prepared for it and hence did not clench teeth. just imagine what happend to luevano. similar thing happened to pac.
