Purrity was a tough journeyman who could cause problems for contenders and prospects alike that Wilders handlers wouldn't have dared put him in with on the way up. The loss in comparable to say Stevenson's L to Boone or Jacks to Edwards in the sense that a superior prospect who would go on to achieve great things suffered an embarrassing setback to a tough journeyman in the developmental stage of their career... This almost happened to Wilder with Sconiers, a far inferior fighter to any of the aforementioned journeymen who upset the odds.
