In other words, this guy has set a new standard.

Give the announcers credit for taking it to him.

Do any of you think the protest will lead to some action favorable to Agbeko?

    Like voiding the result?

Or will they merely say Mares would have won anyway--which is impossible to know.

Corruption should not be allowed to stand. OTOH, boxing commissions may be corrupt as well... Which is how corrupt refs exist in the first place. Especially those of long standing.

This clown is about as corrupt as the ref in Bute - Andrade I.

Funny how folks tend to forget that fight. I guess because Bute proved to be truly the better fighter in the rematch, but that ref should be in jail.

And Mora should be his cellmate.

This looked like some **** straight out of WWE where they have a guest referee that allows one guy to blatantly cheat the whole fight.

 What's sad is that you're exactly right. Usually when a ref has been bribed, they're supposed to make the screw job look a little more natural than that. Making it so obvious that you're the first person they interview after the fight, and not the fighters, isn't exactly the main objective.

I can't even remember the last time the ref was the first guy interviewed after a fight. That's how bad that **** was.

Cortez is simply incompetent. Lawrence Cole is the most corrupt ref in boxing. :deal

Saw on another thread that someone actually thought that the FBI would be brought in.

Not gonna happen, and if it did, they'd whitewash it.

It is the boxing promoters and commissions, not just this corrupt refs--and the others like Cortez, and Steele who robbed Meldrick against JCC--that need to be investigated and then busted.

Mora, like Cortez has been doing this a long time! Just saw "wiki" had this on Katsidis' page re Guerero fight: "In the second round, Katsidis seemingly scored a knockdown due to a cuffing left hook, but this was not counted by referee Russell Mora." Was that another Oscar show?

When a city finds that their police are all corrupt, they go to the academy and get recruits. Here they should dump the Cortezs and Moras, etc.
And bring in new refs across the board.

It's the promoters and Commissions that need to be investigated and not to stop at the ones receiving either money or some other form of payola.

Go after the ones giving it to them! The people need to protest and demonstrate, to force some action.

    Disagree strongly.
Cortez is very competent in his wrongdoings of long standing.

People go on and on about Calzaghe vs BHop.
Elsewhere I have written that if Cortez were not corrupt, the rules demand that if BHop is faking a nut shot to get a rest, Bhop first gets a warning or a point deduction. 2nd or third time, Bhop gets DQed!!!

But that didn't happen. And BHops huggers dare to go on and on, and ignore the blatant chicken**** he did.

Here Mora should have deducted first one and then 2 points, and then he should have DQed Mares. It's the rules.

Need a poll: Most corrupt recent refs. Mora, Cortez, Steele, other?.

People need to write to the state boxing Commission and threaten them into action. This one is the Nevada Boxing Commission.

The home cooking we've seen from USA, Canada, UK, German arenas gives all of boxing a bad name.

People want a good fight, and an honest, fair fight.

Cortez works all around and usually does an okay job. Mora, on the other hand, is Golden Boy's house ref and works for their interests and solely their interests.

GBP had to go in there with this gameplan for Majres and of course the Ref was part of it.

Man there's no need to bring up Taylor/JCC here. That was a judgement call that just happened to work out in JCC's favor, it was a tough break for Meldrick but he was knocked out within the time limits. Steele could have stalled and let it go to decision, but he went by the books and said Taylor was unable to continue when Taylor showed that he was unable to continue. There's a difference between a controversial decision and a robbery.
